Dish Network Increases Their Price Again...ugh

As of Feb. their top 100 package increases from $31.99 to $33.99. Now a couple of months ago I noticed our PPV channels seemed to be "dwindling"..DH said something to a guy at work and guess what? It's true. He said he called and "complained" and they said if you wanted the PPV channels you once had you had to upgrade to the Dish 500. We only have 4 PPV channels now and for the past week there were only TWO flippin' movies to chose from. They played the same movie on 2 channels. They just increased their prices not too long ago as it is...seems like they are slowly MAKING you switch to the Dish 500...oh yeah, they do give you a "free PPV movie coupon" w/ the letter telling ya of the increase...but heck..with only two movies to chose from like this past week..IT SUX!
Is Direct TV and Dish Network all owned by the same company?!?!
We can't get cable out here and for 2 1/2 years we did just use our antenna...which we got 3 channels and on good days we got to add Fox (2 to the list. Hmmmm...we love the Animal Planet shows...but I'm thinking that alone certainly isn't worth $33.99 a month.

**EDIT** I had said the top 100 was $31.00...it should have been $31.99

We have Dish satellite too. I thought DirectTV was owned by a different company. Maybe someone out there knows the answer. I know that a friend of ours couldn't get Dish 'cause of placement of the dish and ended up with DirectTV. I just wish Dish would get the local channels, we still have cable TV as well as Satellite just so we can get the local channels.

Mousie, got the same letter and No, the merger deal broke up because the GOV. block it under the anti trust law. At one time, yes, Echostar was going to buy Hughes Electronics who owns Directv. BUT you DO NOT want Directv. TRUST ME! Think about our phone conversation last year where I was cussing Directv before we switched over to Dishnetwork.

OH and 3TB, Dishnetwork has local channels now, BUT you have to get a waiver signed by the local channels to be able to get them through your dish. Call them and have them start the waiver process for you.

I also am with DishNetwork. Did you guys get your free movie with the letter? We did but I doubt we use it. We have Dish 500 with the 150 channel programming. It does have more PPV channels but you might get 5 of the same movie on 5 different channels! LOL

As for the waivers....good luck Dish Network will start the waiver process but it wasn't long before we were rejected by all 3 local networks. Dish will only help one time so I sent letters to all 3 of my local affiliates. I only got one response and all it said was they needed more proof that we could not get their channel. Well I live in SW MO and the town I live in has streets like you would see San Fran with all the hills. We are in a valley, surrounded by homes, trees, etc. not to mention our local affiliates are 20 miles away. We bought the most expensive antenna @ Wally World and we can hear 2 channels but barely see them. I have thought about trying again, but I have a feeling it's hopeless but I cannot see paying an extra $20 for cable just to have local programming.

Bassmount, we already tried the waivers, but they refused to sign them. That's why we can't get the local channels here. No cooperation here.

KathrynJB is an unknown quantity
We have Direct TV, and we really like it. We are paying less for tv now (with local and two Premiums) than we were with cable, and we didn't even have digital. The two companies are NOT owned by the same people, as far as I know.

There is no cooperation here either 3TB. I just thought you didn't know how to do it.

As far as the TV stations "proof", nothing would be good enough to be honest. We live beside a 100,000 watt FM radio tower for the local country FM station, that also "rents" space to several Cell phone antenas and it bleeds in REALLY bad on the TV, but this was not a "valid" reason for them to give us a waiver.
