| I sure do remember having to wear curlers to bed! My mom was a hairdresser, and goodness! Can't have her daughter going ANYWHERE without her hair lookin' good! I remember when we got a set of electric curlers. Mine were cool, 'cause they had steam, too. Then curling irons... can't remember when I first used one of those. Probably in high school. The one I had was super-cool, too. It held water, and once you got your hair wrapped around it, you pushed in on the end, and it sprayed water (just a little) out the full length of the curling iron. That really helped set the curl. (The sizzling sound it made was pretty awesome, too. LOL )At our house, you could dial the five numbers of your phone number and hang up and it would ring. We can still do that now, you just have to dial all ten numbers. We'll do that sometimes if one of us is upstairs and we don't want to yell downstairs to someone. LOL.

| I lived in several large cities when I was growing up, so the 5 digit phone numbers wouldn't have worked. However, instead of 7 numbers, there was a word prefix plus 5 numbers. You dialed the first two letters of the word. I don't know why I remember this, but two of our numbers were KIng 95719 and VIking 66106. Area codes didn't exist so all long distance calls had to be placed through the operator. Can you still reach an operator by dialing zero?!?! Pip, I remember those steam curlers and still have (but don't use) the amazing sizzling curling iron. I believe Clairol was the first to make hot rollers, but I had the special steam ones made by Norelco, maybe? They came in a white case and were designed to grip the hair and not let go. Ouch!! Painful memory. How the heck did I sleep with hard plastic rollers in my hair? I had forgotten about the bedtime ritual... dump all the rollers on the bed, put them in without looking in a mirror because I'd done it so many times and then cover them all with a curler cap that matched the curler bag. When I was a child I had to wear little white gloves to church and other dressy occasions. How many kids now have even heard the phrase, "Don't get your gloves dirty!"? Dressing up wasn't just for church. When I was in college, no one would dream of taking a commercial airplane flight or train trip without wearing business clothes. Women wore hats to events where they would look out of place now and wearing one to church was required. There were no male elementary school teachers. And one of the worst things you could be caught doing in high school was chewing gum. There were no self-service gas stations. There was a ledge under the back window of all cars that was great for a young child to lay on. There was no such thing as seat belts. And cars were made of metal with no plastic except maybe the seat covers. My parents paid $19,000 for the house I live in. It's worth at least 10 times that now. Their mortgage payments were under $100 per month. When my late husband and I were first married, our rent was $80. My favorite soap was The Secret Storm. I remember watching General Hospital when I was home sick from school as a child. Back then the shows weren't taped. They were live. What I miss most: Doctors made housecalls. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Until I was a sophomore in high school, girls were not allowed to wear pants to school OR school functions, such as basketball games. After that, we were allowed to wear them to school functions, but not to school. Then, finally we could wear them to school, but never at any time, were we allowed to wear jeans! My how times have changed!

| I remember some of those! Yes, those pull tabs! You could make chains with them, too, by folding one into the next. I'm thinking it was Puka Shells, though. Angel Flight Pants.....are those the same as parachute pants? Dodge Ball, what a nasty game, especially when you played it on the blacktop parking lot at recess. 4-Square was much more fun! (And I was really GOOD at that one! LOL!) We actually jumped rope at recess when I was in elementary, too. Do kids still do that? Tom and Kelly, sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G First comes love, Then comes marriage, Then comes Tom pushin' a baby carriage! ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()

You couldn't go in a church without a hat. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Pip...I'm not sure if Angel is talking about parachute pants, because those are kind of from the 80s. Since she mentioned disco, I bet it must be those really thin, kind of silky, shiny looking pants from that time. Not very attractive on a man...lol! But boy, do I remember parachute pants also...yuck! My mother used to laugh at my brother for wearing them and said..."years from now when you are looking at pictures, you will regret wearing them!"...lol...she was right! I was born in '67, but I am the youngest of six children. So I remember seeing my brother and sisters in some pretty crazy outfits. I remember my sister used to go to the disco every weekend. I thought she was so cool and that she looked gorgeous!!!...lol All my school pictures are horrible -- you figure I started 1st grade in '73 and the fashion was not so hot for a little girl...lol. I also had that dumb Dorothy Hamill haircut at one point. I looked like a boy!!! It didn't stay back at all...it just fell forward. So I really looked more like one of the beatles! [or better yet...one of the monkees!] Pip...I remember 4 square!!! I loved that game. Just recently, I was at my mother's house and we didn't have any sidewalk chalk for the kids to use. So, I was using a rock to make the outline of a square on the driveway. I was going to show my niece how to play 4 square with my other nieces and nephews. She just kept looking at me funny....and said..."what are you doing with that rock?" I told her we used rocks to make the outline for hopscotch and 4 square when we were young. Gasp!!! She thought we had it so hard....lol!!! Does anyone else remember looking around for that perfect rock that would write like chalk? I think it is so funny now. | I remember those thin shiny stretch pants, they came in something that looked like a silver metallic, something you'd probably wear on a space ship (LOL) and other colors. I had really wanted a pair, but DH said they looked like pants hookers wore, so I never got them. They were supposed to be sexy for their time. |

And then there was the silliness about McDonald's hamburgers containing worms. One of my friends swore that her brother saw a story about this tasty additive on 60 Minutes so it HAD to be true. ![]() The non-remote control TVs...I still have two as backups and had to use one several months ago. It was agony to sit through commercials without being able to flip through other channels. However, I hate, loathe and despise Carrot Top so much that I would jump up and change channels whenever one of his annoying commerials came on. |

| Pssst...there isn't bread in the bread box...shhh...there are Little Debbie snack cakes! LOL! I buy Schwabel bread 99% of the time and it doesn't fit in there nicely until we've eaten about 25% of it so a lot of times I just put the lunch snacks in the bread box. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links.
