Rookie: Last respects for police dog

I was attempting to drive past the Boardman Government Building Saturday morning when I, along with a lot of other traffic, had to stop and wait... The road (four lanes, the two going north were blocked off) was blocked off and there were a lot of police cars with their lights going. I figured there must have been a really bad car accident... Then I noticed that the police cars were all pulling into the Government Building parking lot... and there were a LOT more then I first saw!!! And there was a huge crowd of people standing outside the building... I finally found out why:

"...started a program to raise money to buy protective vests for police dogs..."

Have you ever thought about this??? The "Canine Cops" need protected too! I'm going to try and find out more information about that kind of program.

I know a child started a program to get the vests for the dogs and i saw the story on americas most wanted about a year ago. I did not read the story but I am assuming something happened to the dog. (thats why i did not read it) Stuff like that really bothers me. Remember I am a nurse for animals. When I hear of a dog like that being hurt or killed I get very upset and take it out on others for a few days. So I know better than to read it. But that is a great program that very few people know about or care about. Many police forces are trying to get the vests for all their dogs. Many of those police forces do not have vests for their own. If you find out more info please let me know. Thanx.

I bookmarked this site a few months ago when this young girl was featured on one of the morning shows.

Vest-A-Dog [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

There is an information packet request form on the site regarding starting a Vest-A -Dog program in your own community. This would be a super project for a school or club.
