Question Opinions Wanted From Those Against Hunting....

I don't want any arguing...I won't try to persuade anyone to seeing my take on hunting and I'd appreciate if you all would do the same, BUT I really do want you folks to tell me WHY you are against hunting, is it all hunting..etc..I just want to try and understand it more from your point of view. Telling you up front, I have no problem with SOME hunting..meaning I don't believe and NEVER will understand people who hunt JUST for the sport. My husband hunts, we have the meat processed and we literally consume that meat for probably 85% of our total meat consumption. We will even pay to have someone else's deer processed for the meat, it drives us nuts knowing the hunt was all done for just the sport. I can really understand vegetarians take on the whole anti-hunting...but I'm confused (not being sarcastic) when others have openly told me how wrong they felt it was while they chomp on their t-bone steak or prime rib...I mean, there are animals literally bred just to be slaughtered. Know what I mean? Also, I love animals, I really do...otherwise I wouldn't have has as many pets as I do, but I just see the hunting as TOTALLY different than say the person down the road not feeding their dog and providing no shelter for it, they're slowly killing an animal because of their own lazy, moronic thinking...technically my husband IS killing an animal, but it IS also part of the way he provides for us. We don't have trophy mounts hanging on our walls, he doesn't go on these hunting trips killing exotic animals...etc...
Ok..now seriously, I do want to try and understand the reasons for why some of you may be against hunting...Thanks

I have to say I agree with you in your thinking, but I do know a lady that hates it, says killing anything is a sin, even a fly.
It seems to me that people nowadays have it so easy. They can go to a store and buy whatever meat they want, (usually). In the "old days", if you didn't go out and hunt, you didn't eat that night. That's just mho though...

I am absolutly against hunting for sport. I remember the time when my aunt and uncle showed up at my parents house ( I was around 10) with a deer they had killed. They cleaned it right in their front yard and took it to the taxidermist that lived down the street from us. Wherever they were hunting, they were only supposed to have shot does but my uncle said that he saw that buck and couldn't resist. The head is still mounted on their wall. It makes me sad every time I go over there and look at it.

Now, if a person is hunting for food, I don't have as much of a problem with it. I would still prefer that hunting did not occur, but if a person is killing an animal and realy using all of the meat, I won't say anything.

With that said, I remember my dh telling me that when he was growing up, his family was so poor at times that the only food they had was from what his dad went out and killed. If that is a person's situation, I have absolutly no problems with that either.

I know that the meat that you get in the supermarket is most likely from a cow that was bread to be slaughtered. However, since there is so much commercially produced meat avaliable, I don't really understand why a person would want to go out and kill a wild animal.

I know I may not be making much sense...probably becuase I am having a hard time today getting my thoughts across properly. I hope you can figure out what I am trying to say!!

I was totally against hunting my whole life. I was raised by my hippie parents, whom I affectionately call tree huggers, and I abhored anything to do with guns.

I married my sweet dh, and had no idea that he had a hunter inside of him. He use to hunt with his dad, and wanted to do that with our kids.

Can you say CLASH baby???? LOL The first year he hunted was really really rough on me, and on our marriage. I realized that I had to die a little to myself in this area, and he had to compromise also. It took awhile, and I wont say its perfect, but we are getting there. The urge for hunting is not in all men, but I would say most (fishing, hunting, etc). I think this urge is not in very many women, but it is in some. I realized it was a difference in the sexes, I couldn't understand his desire because its not in me. I also saw that these were his kids too, and he had the right to build memories with them the way he always had dreamed.

My boundaries are that we eat whatever we catch, kids have to take hunter safety, wear bright orange, and a few others. For the most part he respects these. He has earned my respect also, with his restraint. He will only take a perfect shot. Because he bow hunts he can also go for does. But he will never do it until he has watched her for awhile to make sure there are no fawns. In fact, to date, he has not gotten a doe yet, because he is so careful.

I had many reasons for not wanting to hunt, the abundance of meat at the store, killing wildlife, mother nature. But through this I have learned that deer are not an endangered species, they do need to be controlled. They rely on hunters to do that, they carefully monitor exactly what was killed, to keep everything in balance.

So thats my experience with this issue-lol

This is EXACTLY the reason I thought to be the reason for people being against hunting. Yeppers, you made perfect sense hon'...at least to the point I understood and I've been using cleaning products so you did really well..LOL!

Now, we can afford to buy beef every week if we chose. The thing for us is after using deer as our biggest meat staple, it's sorta difficult for us to use beef...like we got so use to it that when I make say a meatloaf or Chili using beef, it tastes funny to us..LOL! I also get grossed out by all of the grease that you get when you just fry beef burger. Deer is very lean, which also means I get burned less when cooking LOL! Believe me, I need all of the help I can get. LOL!

MDelorisR..I have a lot of friends who aren't fond of hunting...when someone may ask where Kenny is and he's hunting, I'll answer "He's off doing his hobby." They don't make me feel badly, we just don't talk about it. I understand they would just prefer NOT to know anything about it..they know it exists, but there's no reason for me to go into details and make them think about it when it bothers them. Now a FLY???? Uhhhh...I'll swat those suckers any chance I get! Best time is when it's just warming up and they don't seem to have their wits about them yet..LOL! They're gross...period. I have chickens and dogs outside, I KNOW they are gross!!!! Everytime I see one in the house I can't help but wonder what the last thing was that it crawled all over...EWWW!

the wild game is far healthier than the meats you can buy at the store. The wild game has less total fat, and also the TYPE of fat is better, more omega 3s less omega 6 since the animals are eating their natural diet, they're not eating tons of refined grains and hormone shots like on a farm

I probably shouldn't be posting since I don't oppose hunting, but just throwing in my 2 cents.

I'm TOTALLY opposed of my children hunting (when they get older). Mainly for the danger. Every year someone gets shot and killed while hunting. Just the thought of them holding guns gives me the chills - luckily my hubby doesn't hunt any more.

Also living in Minnesota, you see a deer hit on the road at least once a week. MANY in our area because we live on the edge of a state forest. I see hunting as a way of population control.

I cannot stand deer meat anyway, so I'd never eat it. But I have no problem with others hunting, even though I feel sad when I see deer strapped to their cars.

I don't understand people - so it's okay when animals are bred for slaughter, but not okay when they're shot in the wild? Don't see it.

I'm against killing just for the sport of it. If you need food and you hunt for your food and consume what you kill, that's a different story. If it's a matter of survival I don't have a problem with it, and we need food to live.

I'm indifferent really. I'm not a hunter just because it doesn't interest me..

You may find this funny.. or weird.. but I'm a very picky eater.

I wouldn't eat REAL beef up until a year ago. I.E. real beef is what is shot and brought to the butcher and then home.

I would only eat FAKE beef (that which is wrapped in a Giant Eagle wrapper).

My other half would take the REAL beef, put it on an old Giant Eagle wrapper to let me notice it.. then would cook it up.. and all the time I thought it was FAKE.

Sorry.. Paula.. got sidetracked from your original topic.

I live in the country and hunting is a big deal here. I am only against hunting for skill. I know plenty of people who hunt for food etc. and I am not against it at all. For those who hunt for skill I am totally against that!! I consider it a hate crime. I can't find any other reason why they would do it.

I am against hunting only because I think humans have an unfair advantage over animals. (More intellingent and have guns)
I do not think it is bad to hunt for what you eat. And some hunting helps control certain populations that would starve if they were left to multiply with no interference. (deer in many areas is an example)
I turn the tv off if they show a hunting show. I do not think of hunting as a true sport.

Thank you all for your opinions!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff..lmbo, Kyle (oldest DS) at one time didn't like deer meat..well, they USE to put it in the white butcher paper when we has it processed. A little Mom and Pops store in the village not too far from me put all of their meat in that also...Kyle would refuse to eat whatever I cooked if he saw that white paper, swearing I was trying to trick him into eating deer..LOL! There's no tricking any one when it comes to that, you can almost always tell. GOOD FOR YOU SO!!! LOL! We've done it also just to keep Kyle from wiggin' out...for some reason he assumed when he saw the white styrofoam piece in the trash it was beef! I used the same pice for wuite a while!! LOL!

I am opposed to hunting....basically for most of the reasons everyone has already stated......but.....be that as it may....I am MORE opposed to the phrase "being raised for slaughter"...I would prefer to hear someone say they are "being raised to be killed" or "being raised for food"...that is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves....I HATE that!!!

Ok...rant over..... *breathe in, breathe out*

Mouse...sorry to get upset in your thread..... I know you DO understand where I am coming from, though

I can't stand the taste of wild game....so, remind me that if I ever visit the mouse.....we are going OUT to dinner....lol...

Folks...don't misunderstand Nate's pet peeve of the slaughter phrase..she didn't mean it at all the way it may have sound..you would have to know her on a more personal level to understand why.

Nate..we do eat chicken babe (not from the backyard either..lol..those are for eggs..lol), some beef, turkey, ham..etc..you name it Even LIVER! LOL!
