This may be a silly question, but why are you opposed to the phrase?

Here in Texas, many peopleare injured or die from car accidents involving deer. I'm in favor of controlling the deer population if there are too many of them, especially if the venison is used for food by the hunters' familes or the poor.

I'm not gonna sit here and be a hypocrite....I eat and LOVE meat (no vegetarian here).

But to ME, I hate the idea of making a "sport" outta killing animals. Personally, I could never kill any living creature, that's just ME

For those of you against hunting, period...does the same aplly to fishing for you as well?!?!?! Not trying to "set anyone up", just another question I had.
Now....something many of you DID bring up..."if it's used for feeding the poor"..ya know what? If you want to donate the meat (whether hunted OR killed by vehicle) the "donor" must pay to have it processed. I always thought that was so stupid. The place we use to process our deer charges a flat rate ($65) if you do a standard processing, meaning no trail bologna or jerky...a hundred (+) pounds of meat could feed a LOT of people. I think of how many people who do it "just for sport" would be able to actually help others, but not many people want to pay for the processing.

Naomi...I didn't eat deer for MANY years..the thought of it just freaked me out, but I could NEVER be a vegetarian either..I think I could give up vegtables more easily..LOL!

Fishing?
To me there is a big difference, but only if it is a "catch and release" tournament or you eat what you catch. I even watch an occasional bass tournament on tv. But there is no release program for deer and bear and other animals that are hunted with a gun.
DH and I have fished for years and years, but we only keep what we will eat. I have so many great memories of peaceful evenings on the lake.....of course there was that one time........friends of ours saw a snake and tried to shoot it....hubby and I hid in the bottom of our boat and prayed no bullets would ricochet our way....

Re: Opinions Wanted From Those Against Hunting....

I'm not against Hunting, I know you wanted replys from anti-hunters but i feel as if i had to say something on this matter. Weather hunting or fishing there is something to be said about the outdoors person. Theres a certain spark of ancient man that one connects to when taking part in these activities, its not survival of the fittest or being able to survive in a catastorphie. It's the connection you get with a necssecary part of human history and once everyone stops participating in it thats when will lose that side of being human. It's never a good thing for us as individuals to assume were better than anything and basically thats what the anti-hunter/fisherman are doing......Plus it helps keep the eco-system in a healthy balance sine our ancesters over hunted for profit, i don't care what people say your connected to it somehow.

Re: Opinions Wanted From Those Against Hunting....

Since you asked......First off, I am a vegan. My kids and DH are as well. Before this upsets anyone my kids are well fed, just not fed animals. My anti-hunting feelings come from two places.A friend of my Father was a sport-hunter who tried to toughen me up as a kid by shooting a deer in front of me.Well he did not get a good shot so he took off to find another deer leaving my Father and I following an injuried deer till my Father could finish the job. Some will say how I feel makes me a wimp and they are right I was the kid who could not bait the hook with a worm as a kid.I also do not feed my family off of somebody doing it for me and putting it in nice clean packages that distance you from where meat coes from. My other reason comes from the loss of a friend to a piron disease that he got from deer that he ate.He and his family hunted only for their needs.
We grow our own fruits and vegetables that we eat.We do not use bonemeal on our plants because it comes from animal. The exception to vegan that we do, that those stricker than us may frown on, is that we go keep a worm box to use their castings ect. on our garden. Do I force anyone else to live my way, no.If my kids grow-up to be meat eaters that is their choice, if they grow-up to be hunters the better not do it for sport.....if you understand what I mean.

No offense, but that's hilarious! Before I got my name changed to add an "e", my coworkers ribbed me all the time about "Not running with sharp objects".
