| Anyone have an HDTV? My almost 20-year old 27 inch tv is dying. When I first turn it on, only the middle part of the screen is visible. It takes several minutes to warm up before I get a full picture (I know, the CRT's focusing is failing). I was wondering if it's worthwhile to upgrade to HDTV now, or just get another regular TV. I would not like to have spent money on a regular TV just to find out, in year or two, that HDTV is the new standard. Anyone who has taken the plunge and bought an HDTV set? Still very expensive, huh? P.S. Any secret Santa's out there who would gift me a 27 inch HDTV? ![]() __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | well we have one but didnt buy the decoder box because only 3 stations broadcast in high definition so its not really worth it....the fcc has told all the networks that they must broadcast in high definition by 2005. we will buy the box when that time comes. the thing is, when that happens, and you have an HDTV with decoder, you put up an antenna and you dont need cable or satellite tv anymore so it will be a good thing......but not for cable companies..LMBO.....anyway.....it isnt necessary but if you need a new tv now is the time to get one. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Thanks for the input. I was thinking that, if I buy a standard def TV now, in less than 3 years the networks will be sending out HDTV signals, in addition to the current standard d signals, and I will be saddled with a rather new TV that doesn't get the better reception. I only get the free signals over the air because I refuse to pay for cable. Maybe my current TV can squeak along for another year but the picture tube is slowly dying. Alas, no secret Santa came calling with an HDTV in his bag for me. Those who currently have an HDTV and do not have the decoder box, is the reception of the free "over-the-air" signals any better?
