| What would you personally make of this?
Hrm...this just seems odd to me. What would you guys think/reply to this? First of all, here is the item I have up for bids: Here is the email I got as a "Question for the seller" email: Hi, I collect other girls sneakers. I have been doing this since I was a cheerleader in high school. I would love to add these sneakers to my collection. I have paid a girl in the past 150 for pictures of the sneakers from all sides being worn and posed in and with. And she also signed her name and age all over them. I am willing to make you the same offer. Can you please tell me about the owner of these, her name and age? Please feel free to email me so we can setup the deal. May I please see a picture of the soles of these? Thanks Seems like this could be possible but...well...odd. I mean...first of all, they are MY sneakers...I'm 19, not very exciting or extraordinary, never used the sneakers more than once or twice...they are just taking up room in my closet and I want to get rid of them. I wrote back telling her age and asking her to provide me with more info. The email I sent sounds very skeptical. There is a bid on the sneakers and I'm guessing it's from this lady. She has no feedbacks at all. I just had so many questions: -Why would she want my sneakers to add to her collection (they are very common and I'm no one special)? -Why would she pay me $150 for pics of me wearing them? -Why would she even need to ask me a question if she just wanted the sneaks for her collection...she could just bid and win (or she could have used BIN as it was an option before she bid)? -Was she emailing me just to ask me if I would sign the shoes? That's what I was thinking... If this person wants to bid, win, and pay for my shoes...Fine. But signing them and taking pictures is just well...odd. The name registered under that user name is a female but that means diddly. It could very well be a guy anyway. What should I do? |

The first thing that popped into my mind was the it is a sexual problem with the bidder. They're not just talking about buying sneakers here, they want to buy a signed picture of a woman and a piece of what is in the picture (the shoes). It seems like something one might use for "personal pleasure". I can't imagine any other reason one would pay that much money. First off - do not send pictures! Even thought the money may be tempting. Second, I would ask this person flat out why they would spend so much on it, and what value they see in having photos, why they like collecting these. It would be interesting to get into their head and see what they say. If this could be a sexually derranged person, it would be good to do anything possible to find out. You may want to make it easy for them to let you know if it is a sexual thing by not sounding suscpicious or detective-like. Maybe you can ask their name and do a search online to see if there is a criminal record. There are a lot of weirdos out there doing who knows what, who need to get caught. another thought, when you sell them you may want to use a fake addy or something, so he/she does not know where you live. and don't accept checks, just m/o's, so they don't know your real name.

She definitely has a sneaker and/or foot fetish, and the photo part, well, that's just too weird. Guess it takes all types to make a world. I had a strange experience once when I was working in Hartford, CT. One day when I wore sandals to work I was walking downtown on my lunchbreak simply walking down the sidewalk and I noticed from the corner of my eye this guy, who then started chasing me down the sidewalk. I quickened my pace, but he caught up to me anyway and then proceeded to tell me that I had nice feet. I didn't see that one coming at all! I'd say it's definitely someone with more than a foot fetish. I'd say it's a "he" looking for some female victims. He already has your city and state from the auction listing. If you send him a picture, he then knows what you look like. If you autograph the shoes, he then knows your name. I'd grab his money if I were you, just for the fun of it. Take the money, via PayPal to a friend's account, then they can transfer it to you. Sign the sneakers using a bogus name - get it from your newpaper obituaries or use the name of a male police officer with a "unisex" first name like Terry or Dana. Take pictures, but playfully conceal your face. Wear totally unappealing clothing. Send the package using a bogus return address. Change the "location" on your eBay profile. You'd be playing a little with fire, I think, so if you're the least bit worried, just don't bother with him. The only flaw in the plan is the likelihood that you'd keep your eBay ID. He could do a future deal with you and get your name and new address from that. P.S. - one other flaw - do a web search on your user name. You may be surprised what turns up, including your posts on this website.
