| boring silly question #2- how often do you replace things? I am wondering how often other people replace household items. Some specific ones- how often do you replace bathroom rugs? Or cookie/cake pans? sheets? towels? I do my pans if they are very rusty, sheets I just bought two pairs, and it was amazing, been using handmedowns these last 13 years. Towels, I buy here and there, but I still have tons of worn ones that I want to replace. Bathroom rugs need to be replaced, but I just bought them three years ago. I always feel bad, because I don't want to be wasteful! So tell me what you all do! __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Not nearly often enough. It seems there is always something more important to get or buy. I have burnt hot pads that REALLY need replacing though!!! ![]() __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Not nearly often enough is RIGHT! It has to be on its last leg before it gets replaced and even then I might not get rid of it completely...It's a curse to be so frugal! LOL I ALWAYS think why did I wait so long to get new "whatever"? Yet, my habits don't change. One year I got so many good deals after xmas (through DoD!) that I replaced all the sheets and towels...some blankets...pots and pans...It was great!! I am set in many of those areas now. Could use some new tennis shoes though! Mine are pretty ragged looking. ![]() |

| Heck, I wait till it's worn out, can't be fixed up and wait some more THEN I wait for a good price. I'm sentimental even about "stuff". Friends think I'm crazy because I LOVE items for the home for Christmas. Hey dh ~ I need bath towels, a wood floor cleaner and some power tools! ![]() __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | I used to wait a long time before replacing stuff, but I don't anymore. I replace my towels when they start looking dingy or fraying. That goes for the kitchen ones, too. I used to buy clothes, purses and shoes with the mindset that if I buy really good things, they'll last forever. Well, they might, and I do that with really classic things, but most times, I don't pay attention to that so much, because I usually get tired of something long before I ever wear it out. I like things to look new, and go to great lengths in taking care of things so they look new as long as possible, and if they start to look too old, I definitely replace them. One thing I used to be really bad about was underwear. It's so expensive, so I used to truly wear mine out. Then I read somewhere that having nice underwear made you feel better about yourself. You know what? It DOES!! LOL!!! Now I replace it a lot more often! __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. | I'm w/ sblme...rarely does anything get totally discarded...I even use the socks for dust rags, get too messy of a job I just toss them out No sense in actually washing them when there are always socks being added to the "rag bag".Towels...I also have some from when my first husband and I married...that would be..1990..some are REALLY thin, I like using those for my hair tho..can't stand having a bulky towel on my head, I mean really..I barely have any hair anyways! LOL! My Mom now...WOW! With her it's ALWAYS a good time to replace rugs, placemats and curtains!!! Dad and I actually make little bets after she puts out something new, how long it will be before a new one takes it's place!!! LOL! Sorry Mom, but you know it's the honest to God's truth!!! LOL! Now I have to agree w/ the underwear...I DO have a few pair that are only worn during the "monthly" tho..LOL! After Kenny's emergency surgery from being hurt at work, he truly understands the reason behind "always change your underwear before leaving the house"..LOL!

| We use everything 'til it literally falls apart. We just bought a new couch recently, had the old one at least 15 years and when we went to move it, we saw where the nails were starting to come apart from the wooden arms on it. We were lucky we didn't end up on the floor. It could have given way any second (LOL). Bath mats are another story. They just seem to wear out more than usual from all that use. I used to buy the kind with the rubber backings, but they just get real icky real fast, so I've just replaced my last one with a towel like type, heavier than a towel, but something I can just throw in the wash. OK, so I'm practical. As far as cooking pots, well, we bought really good ones, so they just last and last and last. We don't use rugs in the house, have hardwood floors. Nothing to replace there. __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Just redid my DD's bathroom, after 3 years. Painted the trim, new rugs, shower curtains and hand towels. They had a white and lavender theme, but went with an ocean theme, brighter colors. Their bathroom is easy to change. I keep towels almost forever....who's gonna see what towel I use to dry off with after I shower? But I have "nice" sets that are only put out for looks, when company is over. They hardly get used. I was looking at our entrance way rugs the other day...they could use replacing, also three years old. They get a lot of use. Toothbrushes every couple of months, undies as needed, makeup as recommended. I just went through our medicine cabinets and got rid of a TON of expired stuff. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Well not often. I use everything till thread barren. When towels get icky I give them to DH for rags. Then they are used till can't be used anymore. My sheets when to thin I cut up for dust rags and house rags. (use cotton sheets so they work well) Of course I replace toothbrushes every 2 months. I do keep a couple of the old ones for cleaning. I like to re-use and recycle alot.

![]() I don't necessarily replace things all the time but I DO change things......usually with the seasons, LOL I have a "winter" bedspread, I change my placemats every few months, and living room curtains usually twice a year (heavier lace ones in the cooler months) Little things like a new bathroom rug (just got one about a month ago at Wal-Mart) or kitchen slice rug makes a big difference, don't have to spend a lotta $$$ Must admit, I'd like to take all of our towels and burn them, need to replace them but don't have the extra $$ right now plus I'm more concerned with the stuff that people see (like we have sooooo many guests here). Heck, they still serve their purpose, the threads are a nice touch I think ![]() Naomi ![]() (off to see what, if anything, I can change around) ![]()

| It has gotten to the point that we replace stuff as the dog chews them up. Love that dog-hate that chewing habit. He "did in" one of dh's sport coats yesterday. Towels- I replace whenever I do not have a nice set of hand towels for the downstairs half-bath or a fluffy set for my own bathroom. The kids could care less. Rugs seem to last a long time here. My hubby fixes everything that breaks. I ruin or use-up the kitchen pans and cookie sheets about every two years. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links.
