Question Questions for people that attend a lot of plays, concerts, etc

how do you get your tickets. Do you feel your area has enough ticket brokers? or is there no competition, just ticketmaster and only 1 or 2 brokers. If you feel your area doesn't have enough ticket brokers, or you live in an area that is starting to get more live arts and entertainment lately, please state the name of your town and state.
Thanks

I'm registered with Ticketmaster. I like the fact that you can print your tickets from home

Makes me wonder why you're asking but, OK, here goes:

If I go to NYC for a play, I wait in the line in Times Square and buy whatever is available for that day. I'm not picky and since I usually end up there on the spur of the moment, I'll wait in line for cheap tickets.

If I'm going to the NEW Verizon Wireless arena in my area (Manchester, NH) for a concert, I usually buy either at the box office or at Ticketmaster. I generally wait until the day of the concert after they've set up the stage and get REALLY good seats...saw Aerosmith, Elton John and Neil Diamond that way...nearly front row. Hockey tix are a definite box office buy.

If I'm going to a local event, such as at the Palace Theatre, Meadowbrook Farms, Capital Center for the Arts, or the Seacoast Rep Theatre, I go directly or order them online through their own sites.

I LOATHE ticket brokers....they are WAY overprices and I personally can't think of ANYTHING or ANYONE that I'd have to see that would cost as much as a month's grocery money! In NH, scalping is perfectly legal so there's nothing to stop the brokers from inflating prices 10 times (or more) the face value. For instance, we're able to get Rolling Stone concert tix for $300.00 each! (those ARE the cheap seats!)

We have too many brokers and scalpers around here...I'd like to see a lot less.

I don't mind using a ticket broker. I've used them several times. Afterall, I already know ahead of time that they are going to charge higher prices in order to get the seats that are wanted.. so who am I to complain? If I don't want to pay their prices, then I won't use them.. but I choose to use them periodically.

As for Ticketmaster, they are really the only other alternative for me living in a small area in order to get tickets in the Pittsburgh and/or Cleveland areas. Unfortunately though, usually the good seats aren't available by the time I can buy them online from Ticketmaster.

My DH and I usually go to the Ivoryton Playhouse in Ivoryton Connecticut, and we subscribe, tickets are mailed to us all at once. You can buy them at the ticket booth as you enter if there are available seats.

I've ordered from a Ticketmaster once before for a concert at the Hartford Civic Center. Only thing I don't like about that, is they charge you extra for the service, no savings there.
