Rolling eyes Clerks who ask "Can I help you find something?".Then they can't find it....

This happens to me all the time!

This was my experience today:

Went to Office Max to buy DD some dry erase markers and a three ring binder that closes with a zipper. (For school)

I'm standing there with the markers and a guy comes up and asks; "Are you finding everything OK?"
I answer: "I need a three ring binder with a zipper closure."
So he points me towards these EXPENSIVE leather binders.
"Ummm.... do you have any that are nylon or cloth?" I ask.

He responds: "Oh, No, we don't have THOSE...THESE are all that we carry."

So I figure I'll go to Wal-mart....and as I am making my way to put the dry erase markers back...guess what I run into?????

THREE RING BINDERS WITH ZIPPER CLOSURE IN NYLON!!!!!!

At the end of an aisle, in a big cardboard display. For $6.99.
I felt like hunting the guy down and showing it to him.

And the funny thing was, at checkout...the girl clerk says "Did you find everything OK?"

So I told her "Yeah, funny thing is...I asked a guy where to find these (the binder)...and he told me you didn't carry these."

"Well, who did you ask?" asks the clerk....

I looked around, spotted the guy, pointed and said "HIM"

"Oh, Mr. So and So." the clerk says.

I think I should get a job at Office Max.

Hmm, yep!! Some clerks really have no idea what their stores carry!! I just let them know that I'll be happy to leave my cart with them to unload and I'll just go to the next store and see if they have what I need. they usually aren't too happy with me, but either know what you have or don't work there!!

Did you ever stop to think that maybe some of these people are newly hired and that's why they don't know their store very well? I work in a party supply store, and when I was first hired, I had no idea of everything the store carried. I have never even heard of some of the stuff people ask for. I didn't know where everything was, yet I was expected to be able to show customers what they wanted. And if I asked the more seasoned employees about where something might be, they just got annoyed with me and told me to find it myself. It was very frustrating! Now there are times when they tell a customer that we don't carry something, and I say "yes, we do" and proceed to show the customer where it is.

OK. He was "Mr. So & So." To me, that means he's management. Evenif he was NEW management, he should have at least said he wasn't sure and either helped Brenda look around or found somebody who DID know.

I think most everyone is reasonably patient with new people...as long as we know they are new. It's when somebody ACTS like they know what they are doing when they really don't that is annoying.

It's different when they just say, "Nope I don't know, or I don't think so" and they don't even try to ask someone else for help also. It's the ones that are unwilling to go that extra step for the customer that gets me!

When I'm asked at the register if I found everything ok, I usually say yes even though I may not have. Once I was so frustrated because I couldn't find something. When the cashier asked if I found everything ok, I said I hadn't and told him what I was looking for. The cashier said, "Ok, I'll be right back." Then he RAN to the area where I was looking and came back successful! I thanked him because I didn't expect that. I also sent a postcard to the store letting them know that he's always friendly and helpful.

I went to a clothing store last summer, walked in, searched the whole store for probably 30 minutes and nobody asked if I needed help. I could see the 2 girls up there chit chatting at the register. I really didn't mind because they bug me when they ask if you need help. I always figure if I need help I will ask.

Funny thing was as I left, they "finally" heard the doorbell and I heard one of the girls yell out "Welcome To Cato's...if there is anything we can help you find let us know" I just walked out.
I could have robbed them blind and they would've never known!

The only conclusion I could come to is (and don't laugh) I am only 4'8" so I just assumed they couldn't see me over the clothes racks. ROFL

OMG Jennifer, I'm sorry...I got a giggle out of that also!!!!

I think I would RATHER get a new employee over some of the grumpy buttmunches I have had to deal with...LOL!
What I really like is getting a new employee while at Walmart, if she starts to get flustered I'd point to the keys she needed to fix the boo-boo since I had worked there. That way she didn't have to wait on a CSR to help her.

Sometimes the employess that have been around awhile seem to get mad when you ask...like I'm interrupting them or something. The best yet was when I asked in the Meijer store where something was (was a good sale price) and the person told me they no longer carried that item...uhhhhhh, so I pull out the sales ad and ask if they don't carry it any more than why in the world is it in the sales flyer????? They mumbled something and got another employee to help me. LOL!

the stores don't pay enough to get a lot of good workers, but even when they do hire good people, they never train them properly, and they never give them any authority to change or correct anything. All these big companies, they don't trust their employees, they don't give them the tools to provide good service, then they pay lip service about being one big happy family and customer service.
and then you do have the entrenched, bitter long term people too.
Big business is evil! when there used to be small business all over, it was better service for the customer and a better work environment for the employee.
