Has anyone ever been to a World's Fair Exposition?

The reason I ask, is that I collect World's Fair memorabilia. I started with the 1939 New York World's Fair after seeing a show on TV about it. Guess you could say I'm a 1939 World's Fair addict. I also just started collecting the 1964 New York World's Fair items. Does anyone else collect World's Fair items, or been to a World's fair, and what were your favorite things or favorite times at the fair?

To see photos from the 1939 New York World's Fair, click on the above web-site, then click on Visit Photo Selection, then click on Galleries to see the photos. Enjoy!

The Trylon & Perisphere were the symbols for the 1939/1940 Fair.

You know how I said I'm addicted to that 1939 Fair? Well, one morning I woke up, I had a dream that I was actually there and I could see the Trylon and Perisphere and it was at night with fountains going and was absolutely beautiful. Too bad I wasn't born yet.

I was at the 1964 Worlds Fair, I was born in 1959 so I can't say that I remember it too well, but my parents have a box full of things that we got there just different flyers and things! Lots of pictures of my family there!

bradedit, I just posted a 1964 web-site in my thread. Maybe it will bring back some memories.

Also check out the 1939 web-site I posted. It brings you back to times past when it was a different world, alot more innocent.

There was a ride built for the 1964 World's Fair called "It's a Small World." You floated through a curvy stream in a flume passing dolls of dancing children in all sorts of native dress singing the classic song.

After the fair was over, the ride was packed up and purchased by the Disney corporation. It was later re-assembled for the opening of Disney World. It still is at Disney World, however some of the dolls have been replaced because of stereotype concerns.

If you watch the program King of Queens, on the opening credits you can see Doug and Carrie having a picnic below the needle that is a monument built for and left by the World's Fair Organization.

I went to the World's Fair when it was in Knoxville, TN. My older sister and I took a bus there. I was 12 and she was 22. We were overwhelmed. We really didn't get to see/do anywhere near everything that we wanted to. We were only there for one day and the lines were unbelievable. I don't think we rode anything other than the sky lift.

I remember going to exhibits from the different countries and being really impressed by a huge stone that was supposed to be RA the sun god. The Budweiser Clydesdales were great too, they had a nice parade/show. The Big Gold Ball sculpture thing was pretty cool.......... Pretty sad that that is all I remember. The World's Fair is much more appreciated by adults. I would love to go again now.

I hate to correct you but the ride actually went to Disneyland in CA and is still there. Yep, it has changed a bit since the Fair - including them changing it to a Holiday theme every Christmas season like it is right now! - but there is a big plaque outside that describes how it was at the World's Fair originally. That's always been my favorite ride!!

There is It's A Small World" ride at Disneyworld. That's the ride I remember. I really enjoyed that when I was there.

BTW there is a petition that some people have started for a new World's Fair in New York, for the year 2000 and something. It was on the web. Don't recall the web-site.

Ooops, I didn't mean to imply that there was not one at Disney World. I just meant that the original one from the fair is at Disneyland.

stking, that's OK, I did not take what you said the wrong way, just didn't know if you were aware of the one at Disneyworld. That is interesting, about the original one being in California now. I didn't know that. I loved those little dolls that moved around. Such a cute exhibit!
