About 2 1/2 years ago I broke my knee, needed surgery, 3 screws placed in kneecap, major surgery and had a scar about 6" down my leg by the knee. I had to wear a horrible leg brace from my hip to my ankle...OK, I am not one to feel sorry for myself, I always try and see things in a positive way, but this one day it wasn't working. My hubby and kids took me out to Target to walk around (LOL) a bit, (had crutches), and as I was moving around - a total stranger came right up to me and started talking about my leg. Told me she had the same thing and that I should not worry, that I probably felt as if I would never walk regular again and she showed me her leg, same exact scar but really couldn't see it - I was so happy, finally felt like someone really knew how I was feeling and it gave me strength to move on. If I could only tell that wonderful woman what she did for me!!! And, my leg is fine, probably stronger then it was before!!! The scar is still fading, but I don't care anymore! It should be the worst thing that ever happens! Now, whenever I see someone with a leg brace like that I do the same thing and talk to them - or any kind of ailment, I openly talk to them and share stories, it really brightens their day too! ------------------ Yadda Yadda Yadda! My story just occurred yesterday...A beautiful soul with which I'm fortunate enough to work, invited me over to her place for Thanksgiving dinner with her family. She didn't want me to be alone and because of her generosity, I got to have a wonderful dinner, wonderful conversation and beautiful memories were created. There's lots to be thankful for this year. ------------------ Happy Bargain Hunting!!! Please feel free to direct any questions and/or comments to me... A wonderful lady I work w/told me she knew I was having lots of family (7 extra people-staying not just coming for the day) so she would like to bake Christmas cookies for me. I know she's as busy as I am. What a blessing!

The greatest act of kindness I can say I have ever experienced did not happen to me but to my sister and her child who were on there way to my daughters first communion.... They were on there way to La. from Tex. and were hit from behind sitting at a red light at about 65 mph... While my sister was sitting trying to stop her sons head from bleeding a gentleman and his son stopped on the side of the road and told her he saw what happend and wanted to stop and pray ... Him and his son stayed there until the ambulance took them away comforting her and praying ... ![]() My sister called me last weekend still talking of this gentleman wondering why he never gave his name... because she has been wanting to thank him since that day.. We will never know who they were but they know ![]() Today my nephew is healing fine after 7months but my sister will never forget what that stranger did for her ![]() That goes to show us there are really good people still out there ![]() |

When my husband and I were on our honeymoon at a hot springs in Ainsworth, British Columbia, one night we decided to go to the hot springs. It was an awful night for me. I hadn't been able to find my bathing suit before I left, and I couldn't wear a tshirt and shorts into the springs. It was awful because I had to wear this paper bag thingy of a suit (called a disposable swimsuit.. ughhh) Anyways, I was sooo embarrassed, but when I got in, it was romantic. Afterwards, we were hungry, so we decided to go up to the restaurant, which was quite fancy, but it was our honeymoon, and with American money worth more than Canadian, we thought we would have enough. We didn't. We were discussing going to another restaurant while seated at a table, and an older couple next to us told us they had watched us down in the hot springs (restaurant overlooked it), and it had reminded them of when they were first married, and they wanted to buy our meal. We disagreed, but they insisted, and paid. I will never forget them for it. We sent them a thank you card, but we never heard back from them. They will always be special to us, though. The wife's name was Fleur-Ange, which means Flower Angel, and she was really like an angel to us. Thanks for focusing on such positive issues. I really am happy to tell that story. |

I have something I did for someone else... A few years ago I lived in an apartment and everyday I would see an old lady across the street in my neighbors garbage cans searching for food. Everytime I tried to talk to her she would become rude and run after me, so I finally gave up. I went to my parents for Christmas eve and when I came home she was in the garbage cans again. I went into my house and took EVERYTHING out of my kitchen cabinets; cereal, soup, vegetables, tunafish etc. and put it in paper bags. I went outside and put it on my front step and went across the street some distance from her and told her Merry Christmas and santa had left some things. I went back inside and secretly watched to see if she would take the packages. it took aver two hours for her to get up the courage, but she finally took the packages. The next day there was an old bouquet of flowers left on the doorstep, and I am assuming it was from her. ------------------ I *Luv* freebies! [Only registered and activated users can see links. What sweet stories everyone. It is amazing how many wonderful and beautiful people we have in this world and ESPECIALLY with DOD. I am so proud to associate with each of you. I have been telling my mother about all the special people we have here and she can't believe it. She has been losing her trust and faith in the kindness of others and posts like this one here are helping to restore it. Thank you all and may God bless each of you always. Just remember, ask and you shall receive. BTW...kindness takes nothing out of you. I flagged a woman down last week on the interstate as I saw a tire of hers fly off her vehicle in shreds. I drove her about 10 miles to the town I live in and got her assistance. She asked what she owed me for my time and I said "Nothing." She insisted and I replied with "Well, the next time you see someone who needs something...do something for them." PAY IT FORWARD IS ALIVE AND WELL!!! I didn't help her for any particular reason of for my want of anything. Well, maybe I did. I helped her as I didn't want her to be in an accident and if she had been my Grandmother, Mother, Sister, Daughter, Niece, Wife or Friend on some other road, I would hope someone would stop and help her too. ------------------ Happy Bargain Hunting!!! Mine is not random but I think it is a good idea. On our way to NJ from SC when we reach the Ft McHenry Tunnel I always pay for us and the car behind us. No big whoop but it makes me feel good! Its something small that we all can do for a perfect stranger!

I was Driving along I-44 in a beat up old chevy station wagon and blew a tire (I was scared 1/2 to death because there was a semi behind me and one beside me!)I got my car and kids saftley to the emergency pull off lane and got out to look, oh my what a mess it was pretty much gone! I couldn't change the tire as it was on the drivers side and the wind from cars going by was to strong i was afraid the car would shake off the jack! I got my 3 children (ages 1 mth, 20 mths, and 3 yrs old at the time) out of the car along with 2 diaper bags. I was carrying the bags and the 2 youngest, while my son held onto the strap of one of the diaper bags we struggled up a hill to a back road that runs alongside of I-44 (old route 66) we didn't get very far b4 a woman stopped and asked if we would like a ride! (I am always a little leary of accepting rides from a stranger especially where my children are involved) But my legs were so tired and i knew my son's were to! I accepted the ride because it didn't seem like anyone else would be along to help and i just had a feeling she was a nice person i could trust! She drove us to our home, and would accept nothing in return, I had found out on our drive to my home that she had seen my blow a tire and had gone to the next exit ramp to come back via the outer road to see what she could do to help! she was running late for work but said she just had a feeling she should turn around to see what she could do! I never did get her name though and am dissapointed in myself for not doing so! Since then when i see someone broke down I stop to see if there is anything i can do to be of any help! |

Great story hellifino. One time when I was a young mother with 3 toddlers in my car, I ran out of gasoline on the interstate. A trucker stopped and put a gallon of gas in my tank so I could make it to the next exit. I have never run out of gas again (try to fill by 1/4 tank) fortunately.

This is a funny ALMOST RAOK. My driveway ends on one of the main highways here in NW Arkansas. Because we live on top of a mountain, our mailbox is down on the highway. On my way home from work, I pull over onto the shoulder and check my mail. The other night, I was sitting in my car, opening a freebie that I couldn't wait to get up to the house to open (patience ain't one of my better qualities...lol) when I noticed headlights in my rearview mirror. A very nice gentleman had driven past, going the opposite direction, saw my car on the shoulder, and turned around to see if I needed any help. I think I embarrassed him when I told him I was only reading my mail, but I got out of the car and talked to him for a bit, thanking him over and over for stopping. I guess this counteracts the night last year when I had a blowout (on the same road) and had to change the tire myself, in the rain. Nobody stopped to see if I needed help. Like many of the rest of you, these RAOK we get makes us more likely to perform them ourselves. Like Jeni said, Paying Forward. Great topic! ------------------ Niki [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |
