I'm doing this on my own.. without any input from the Deal of Day administration. I should also indicate that I am not paid as a moderator so my comments aren't being made out of selfishness to ensure my economic livelihood.

I'm sure everyone has noticed the increase in online stores shutting down.. not surviving. This is really troublesome as many of them I have shopped at countless times.

I caught myself today finding a deal posted on the boards and I opened up a new window and then went shopping at that site. Bad me!

Here is what I just wanted to throw out onto the table:

Deal of Day has bills to pay in order to survive like these other online e-tailers. When we click on a link through Deal of Day and make our purchases, Deal of Day usually gets paid a small commission (if they are signed up with that company).

Anyhow, I feel I owe it to Deal of Day to go through links on this site in order to keep it up and running. If we really enjoy this board and all that it offers from internet deals to freebies to the great conversation and meeting of new friends.. why not try to remember to link through Deal of Day. In these times when so many online companies are closing up shop.. we could help prevent that from happening to Deal of Day.

I completely agree I owe many things to DOD from me getting many freebies to finding new friends...i just got a email from dod (mayor) and emailed it to my work email addy for office supplies: Save $30 off $100 Purchase at OfficeSupplies.com will be going in monday and placing a order through the link mayor submitted! As a purchasing manager at my work, I am able to order from where i want...so this could be a whole brand new experience with Officesupplies.com for us (dte) and we would owe it all to DOD

I totally agree too, without DOD I wouldn't be treated to all these wonderful freebies and news everyday...I enjoy the mayors posting and the mods helping, and I really wish there was something more that I could do, but I am here as a vote of confidence to all associated with DOD, I LOVE IT HERE!!

I totally agree also! Ever since I got a computer, I've started to become a better shopper and only patronize online stores and sites that treat me well and make an honest effort to keep me happy and keep my business, which I think is as it should be. I believe that we can make or break sites and online stores because there are so many to choose from that if one doesn't do well by you, theres another to choose from. So I take my surfing and shopping seriously. I love DOD and I want it to stay around forever so the next time I go shopping for something I'll definitely link through here, I don't know why it never occurred to me before! Thanks jsalba!

Excellent post Jeff - most if not many of us (myself included) forget this very thing, bills need to be paid and we forget that sites get reimbursed for access through them. I totally support this and always try and do what you suggest - this is the best board every....thanks for the gentle reminder!!!!!

BTW, do you mean DOD gets paid for the click even when it is in someone's actual post? Not just on the home page?

I'm another person who didn't realize that DOD was supported by clicking from this site! I guess I probably never thought about it. People always post "go through Freeride or Greenpoints" or other companies to get extra points, but you never see anyone post GO THROUGH DOD! Maybe we should start our own points programs now that most of the other ones are falling apart! How about it Mayor? Ready to take over for Freeride? (Just kidding-don't everyone attack me because I said that!)

I have done A LOT of shopping (sometimes senseless..lol) thru links I have found thru DOD..what's kind of cool is when I've found a place thru DOD, there's many times I don't bookmark the spot...I know it's posted on the board so I always know I can come back to it and even read any new opinions that may have been added since my last visit..I don't bookmark most places because sometimes it's a sale, so why bother?!?!?! I didn't know tho that DOD may get a small commission, knowing that I will always link thru here if at all possible

Uh-oh...I hope I wasn't "misunderstood" when I said "sometimes it's a sale so why bother"...what I meant was I don't bookmark the blowout sales sites after I've gotten there because chances are I won't revisit if the sale should end soon, but I DO come back to link thru DOD to see if it's still going on and if there's any new info a fellow member has posted..make sense? Sorry if I didn't make myself very clear, once again...it sounded better in my head...lol!
