 What is wrong with public schools today?!
I have just about had it with the public school system here!!!  I am sure you all remember the field trip she went on and I wasn't notified. Well of course nothing came out of that. I talked to the principal and she tried to 'smooth' things over saying it wouldn't happen again.....blah, blah, blah. So I tried to contact the superintendent......can't get him to return my calls. Guess I will be sending a certified letter to him before it is all over with. NOW....Ashley came home yesterday with a note saying that we owed the cafeteria some money. Huh?  We always write out a check the first of the month for the entire month to cover her meals. Hubby did this as usual. Ashley swears she gave it to the lady. Anyway.....that is not as much a problem as this is....my daughter doesn't like to drink milk.....she says it gives her a tummy ache because the milk is always warm so we give her money each day to get a juice instead. WELL......this morning hubby told me he would be calling the school to see what is going on since the check cleared etc and he handed our daughter some money for her drinks today. She started crying......and today is her birthday......she said they won't let her get a drink since they say we owe her money!! Huh?! Number one we don't owe them money and number 2 she isn't 'charging' this....she is paying up front of it so what on God's green earth do they think they are pulling?! Hubby was VERY mad.....he tried to calm her down and asked her to explain that slowly and she said that they just wouldn't do it. She said the lady who takes care of all of that told her yesterday she couldn't get a juice. I know this may seem petty but I am furious!!! We are sending extra money to school with our child so she can get a drink with her lunch since they don't offer any other option with the meals but the milk and they are REFUSING to allow my child to purchase it because they didn't credit the proper account?! Just what are they trying to pull?! And why are we just now hearing of this?! I mean they are saying her account is overdue so why didn't we get a notice before now?! I am so fed up with the public school system here. If it isn't one thing it is another. I could tell you other stories about things they have done like when hubby goes to get her in the afternoons they don't know where she is!  Hello people.....are they not suppose to be keeping up with my child!? Why should her dad have to wait 15 minutes for them to search for her......shouldn't they know where she is at all times!? Seems they have ALOT of explaining to do if someone comes up missing. They make it so easy and they would never even notice! I don't mean to be a downer today but I am just so sick and tired of this crap. I know I am not the only one who feels this way. I have talked to several who have complaints like you woudln't believe. The only other thing I know to do is pull her out and try a private school. But the problem with that is we can't really afford it. But I know she would be safer and learn more and we wouldn't have these problems. So I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. when theres a monopoly with no competition, thats what you get. The Democrats are owned by the teachers union, and the Republicans are too wimpy (as usual) to pass the school choice vouchers. I think the GOP's symbol should be a deer caught in the headlights, not an elephant. i dont think that the problem should be directed to the whole system, it sounds to me like the lunch lady has a power trip going and exercising it over these little kids...i would do some complaining against her...... |

Why don't you show up at the school lunch hour, have lunch with your dd, bring her a special drink, or watch the lunch lady refuse you to buy one? A happy birthday surprise. Well I just talked to hubby and he said that he called to talk to the supervisor at the cafeteria at the school and she was as clueless as they come. He said she told him she would look into the matter and see what she comes up with as far as money due. She told him all she does is run the copies from the computer and pass them out. She has no idea what the accounts are. He said at one point in the conversation she even called me by my ex's last name and he said he told her that obviously the records haven't been changed because I ahven't been that name in almost 2 years! Plus they still had poor Ashley listed as that too and he told her very quickly that he adopted her on Sept 9th of this year and the school has copies of that and that name needs to be changed. Her reply to taht was oh, well someone isn't doing their job.....which IMO makes me wonder what else at that school they have screwed up! Anyway.....When he questioned her about not allowing Ashley to purchase a drink he said she avoided that question althogether. He said he didn't want to push it just yet so he told her he had contacted the bank and knew the check had cleared. He said she told him she would have to print out the account and see what it shows and would send it home with Ashley today. He said he once again asked her why Ashley wasn't allowed to purchase a drink and he said she very quickly replied school policy and told him she had to go. End of conversation. Well, hubby said he didn't get the answers he wanted and he will be calling her back later this afternoon.

Not only is the accounting sloppy, but so is their policy on how they inform the parents. I cannot believe they get the CHILD involved in these matters. How ridiculous. Kids have enough stress on them. They certainly don't need to get in the middle of a screw up! Sheesh! How totally cruel to deny a child [WHO HAS THE MONEY] a drink! I would definitely keep after this one. Lori |
