Question Ebay Feedback Question

OK, here's another ebay dilemma. I won an auction and promptly answered the seller's email. I sent a money order the next day and he received it in 3 days. He shipped timely and I received in good order and the items were exactly as described....you would think that there was no problem right?

Well, I've been checking my feedback and the seller still hasn't left any. I contacted him and he wrote back that it is his policy to only leave feedback after the BUYER does!! This is the problem I have with ebay feedback...this SMACKS of the seller reserving his right to make up some cockamamie bull story if the buyer leaves justified negative feedback. I've looked at this guys profile and for every neutral, he's got some story that it's always the BUYER's fault for a bad transaction. I would beleive this if HE left feedback first, but now I know that he only gripes AFTER the buyer does!

So, sellers, I'm curious- do you leave feedback upon receipt of the money and trust that the buyers will do the same upon receipt or do you wait to see if the buyer leaves positive before doing the same?

I'm not a seller yet, but so far everyone I've bought items from has left feedback as soon as they received payment. I always leave feedback after I receive the shipment, unless there is a problem (happens rarely) and then I wait until the seller and I have a chance to work things out.

As for the seller's policy in your case, you might be right about his motives, but since your transaction went smoothly, you should go ahead and leave feedback for him, and avoid his auctions in the future if his policy bothers you.

I do a lot of buying and selling on Ebay and always leave feedback as soon as I receive payment. It irks me though when the buyer doesn't leave feedback so I'll send a gentle reminder.

As a seller, I always leave feedback as soon as I receive payment. I have found that there are sellers who never leave feedback, the same with buyers. I would question the motive of someone who refuses to leave feedback until feedback has been left for them. It took me a long time to stop worrying about the feedback issue. Now, if I have a bad experience, I leave negative feedback. If they retaliate, I go in and respond, letting everyone know it was retalitory because they were a non-paying bidder. I have a problem with Ebays feedback system because once they suspend a bidder, you can't leave feedback. So if you have a non-paying bidder and don't realize it until they have already been suspended for multiple infractions, you can't leave them feedback on your auction. That bites!

My feedback policy is EVERYBODY gets feedback after I know they have their item. I think how they handle mishaps should be considered in the feedback. (like if the package doesn't show up in time thanks to the PO, etc.). I get Delivery Confirmation on every package and this is how I know they have received it. The only exception to my Everybody gets feedback policy is when I wasn't really happy with the transaction, but not unhappy enough to scar their feedback profile. This has only happened maybe three times in the last 4 years. I never do the retaliation feedback thing either. How immature!!!

I personally think it is the most idiotic thing to play the childish "I'll only leave you feedback if you leave me feedback" game. Honestly.. so what happens if both the buyer and the seller have the same idea? Nobody gets feedback.

Also, I find it very rude when someone emails demanding or begging for feedback. A nice little reminder is ok, as I am a brainless idiot here lately and can't seem to remember anything from one second to the next, but sheesh.... the stupid "I've noticed you still have not yet left me feedback. Leave me feedback now or I won't leave any for you" is very annoying and I will glady NOT leave feedback for someone like that. The one feedback comment isn't worth putting up with people like that. And I personally do not email asking for feedback. I used to put my feedback policy in on all the winner notification emails I sent out, but I've been forgetting to do it lately. Seems like when I let them know everyone gets feedback, I got a lot more feedback left for me in return.

Like others above, as a seller, I don't leave feedback until the buyer has received the item and I know that all is well. My sales are minimum $15 items up to $100 or so.

As a buyer, I rarely buy anything more than $5 - $10 on Ebay (mostly Half.com books) and I usually don't leave feedback on all that small stuff unless the seller prods me.

So, double standard, but it relates more to the value of the item (and my time).

I leave feedback once I receive the item. If there is ever anything wrong with the item I contact them before I leave feedback so they have a chance to make the transaction right. If they choose not to then too bad for them. I have to say though I haven't had alot of trouble until recently and I am sure you all have read that thread! lol

As a seller as soon as I receive their payment I will leave feedback. After all they did hold their end of the transaction up so why wait and see what they are going to do. Besides that, if you know the item was just as described then why worry....just leave the appropiate feedback.

I admit that sometimes I get busy and forget to give feedback quickly.....sometimes it may take me a week or so. I like to try and do all of my feedback in one big sitting if I have had several transactions in a week.

I agree 100% with this statement. I answered the seller's email and submitted payment in an acceptable form and in a very timely manner so I thought that I deserved good feedback. But, when he tells me that he won't leave any unless I leave it first...this just burns my butt. What if he didn't bother to ship the item and wouldn't return emails? Then, if I leave justified negative feedback, he'll do the same for me??? WTH???

Ordinarily, I wouldn't bother, but this issue is starting to bug me. I have bought hundreds of items on ebay and my FB rating is only 74. What happened to all those other 250+ sellers I have bought from? Are they ALL too busy to leave feedback? It really shouldn't depend on the price of the item either, after all a transaction can get messed up for a 1.00 sports card and piff someone off just as easily!

This is really important, because a lot of auctions I'd like to bid on are starting to have strict rules about "no bidding if you have feedback of less than 100" or "no checks if feedback is less than 100", or some such nonsense as that.

I'm really at a loss about this. So, I split the difference. I told the seller that I would be the one to leave feedback first. Here's what I wrote:

Trans. wonderful! But Seller will only leave feedback after buyer does.

I know this is petty, but it at least tells people that he holds the buyer hostage.

I know what you mean......
Just checked, I've left 449 comments and my feedback is 387 positives. 328 are from unique users and count toward the final rating.

I have never not left feedback because the item was small (inexpensive)...shouldn't make a difference. A transaction is a transaction regardless of $$ amount,etc........
I've had several transactions right here (FSOT forum) recently and have yet to receive any + feedback. Needless to say, I left + feedback for the sellers.

TIME??? How much time does it take to leave feedback? About 30 seconds, if that? Really, I think you should reconsider how you leave feedback as a buyer. I usually sell mostly small value items and if everybody did what you do, I'd have NO feedback dispite the fact I've sold probably a good thousand items on ebay in the last 4 years.
People who don't leave feedback is also a serious peeve of mine too. I also checked my feedback rating and compared it to the feedback I've left. I have 608 positives, 464 from unique users. I have left 718 and getting ready to leave 5 more - 2 positives and 3 negatives. Non paying bidders are also another serious peeve of mine and I don't put up with them. She won 3 auctions 3 weeks ago and didn't respond or send payment and is still bidding!!!

Ebay also has this neat feature that at the click of a button, will bring up a list of all the people you've had transactions with and you can leave them all feedback at the same time. For those who don't know about it:

Go to My Ebay, click on the Feedback tab (not the one in the Go to: section, but the things that actually look like folder tabs).

Now you should have a page with a button on it that says "Leave Feedback", click on it.

Next will have a page that has a button to find all transactions in the last 90 days that you have not yet left feedback for. Click on it.

And Voila.. there's your page with all the transactions on it complete with space to leave feedback for each, and even an option to not leave feedback right now.

Now if ya'll will excuse me, I have some feedback to leave.

YOU GO GIRL!!!!
(well said I might add)
I left/received feedback for a .05 pet food sample, why because it was the right thing to do.
Sure, I have lots to do (like most everyone else) but it's not very hard to type a few words of praise.

As soon as I receive payment.. or shortly thereafter.. I leave feedback.

When I receive a product as a buyer.. I leave feedback.

If I have a negative experience, I don't bother with feedback at all as it is only going to haunt me as the idiot would chalk up a negative one on my end. I know.. it doesn't help other buyers by doing this.. but that is my protocol.

I leave feedback only after our deal is complete and have comunicated with each other after item has been received and money exchanged. That way, if there is a problem (which fortunately I have not had yet) then we can work it out before any negative feedback is left for either party.

With this person, you should email them to see if the transaction went well, then post part of the message you receive as your feedback from them. In other words, if you get a message that says 'great trade' then put that in as a quote from them. Just a suggestion. Never had a problem like you are describing.
