Advice From Those Who Have Made a Big Move

My husband and I are thinking of moving from Spokane, Washington to the Seattle area in order to be closer to family, and for more opportunities career-wise. Has anyone moved recently or in the past few years who can share what types of expenses we need to think about as far as the move? I'm wondering about how much money we will need to make the move. We have two young children, so we will need to rent a 2 bedroom or some type of duplex for a while until we are able to somehow purchase a home. Any ideas? Thanks!

We moved six years ago from the burbs to the shoreline, only about an hours drive, cost around $500.00 and something just for the moving van. One thing you should do if you hire a moving company is get the price in writing. We did not do that, and were surprised to find it was $500.00 when they had quoted me over the phone something like $300.00, and this was after I had phoned numerous places for the best price. Needless to say, we were not too happy about that and would not use that moving service again.

You'll have to get all your mail forwarded from your prior address, and call all your credit card companies with the new address, and car insurance place, call for phone service installation, cable TV etc. etc.
