I hope this hasn't been posted before...

I saw this in a magazine and wanted to share. I would have loved this as a child, and I think it's a great idea.
Get some "blackboard spray", and spray a spot, either on the wall, or on a door. If you put it on the wall, you can add a border around it, say with wood, or stickers, or paint, or whatever. The kids can draw on this all they want and it may save the rest of the walls.

Just from my personal experience....

If you're going to make a chalkboard wall/door or anything inside, do NOT use the spray stuff. It tends to overspray & it incredibly hard to get off. The spray is wonderful however for refreshing an old hanging chalkboard - just do it outside, in a very well ventilated area, where it won't matter if it gets on something else.

For walls, doors & other indoor stationary areas, try Crayola's Chalkboard paint. It comes in the smaller paint tins & goes on very easily, just like any other indoor paint. I used this on my son's wall - it took 3 coats to get to the desired color but it doesn't get quite that matte color like a true chalkboard. However, it has held up incredibly well - I only had to do some minor touch up where DH scraped it with a bedframe (had to touch up the paint on the adjoining wall too, so it wasn't because this wore off any easier). You might need to ask your paint place to special order this but it shouldn't be a big problem to find it - my little corner paint place in our small town ordered it for me for $6.50 - which was way more than enough to do a nice sized board & have plenty left over for touchups.
