Thumbs up POPCORN TINS

Just sitting here looking at my adorable "wastebasket". Surely you've seen those popcorn-filled (usually three flavors) tins ESPECIALLY around the holidays! My mom was given one and passed the tin on to me. It is PRECIOUS, it has the cutest lil puppies on it (each one wearing a bandana around its neck). We use it as our wastebasket here in our playroom/home office. To keep it clean I put a plastic bag inside (one that you get from the grocery store) so I just empty that and stick another one in.
After the holidays, you can pick these "popcorn tins" up for next to nothing. A great/inexpensive alternative to a plain 'ol wastebasket!
Naomi

When my girls were smaller, we used it as a shoe bin! The kids would just throw the shoes in there and then we wouldn't trip on them...now that they are bigger, I need a HUGE popcorn tin for a replacement!

Hey... I never thought of using them for trash cans. Good idea.
I have used them for storing toys before.

I keep my Christmas ornaments in tins too. Like Naomi said, after Christmas they're dirt cheap & you can usually find them with Christmas motifs. I just use bubble wrap in between the layers - my ornaments are mostly all wooden ones & odd ball shaped things like cats, penguins, airplanes, etc. but I'm sure that it would also work well with just about any of the ornaments out there. I have 4 tins now - two with ornaments, one with lights & one with beads, etc.

The tins stack up nicely & because they have tight fitting lids, it's not a disaster if they fall off the shelf. Before we had a mess of funny sized boxes for everything and it was just a disaster waiting to happen when we went to get everything out.
