Need a recipie for Fried Oranges

Does anyone have a recipie for Fried Oranges or Fried Lemons? It supposedly was a delicacy back in the medieval times, and is sometimes prepared at Renaissance Festivals, but I can't find a recipie for it anywhere.

I know my friends here can help me!

That's the best I could do ......sorry

editing to put this in here......from what I just read, this is a deep fried type of thing....might want to make up a tempura batter add a little sugar to it coat the orange sections and just deep fry the darn things and see what it tastes like LOL.

Talking

Thanks, guys and gals.

I was thinking that it would be really great if I somehow coated the orange wedges, or slices maybe, in a dark brown sugar, before the batter, it would glaze as it fried. Just a thought. I never professed to be a master chef. (but I was a Master Sergeant!)

I just have to fight the temptation to do the southern thing and dip them in cornmeal.

Hey wifey, you said books wouldn't help and then posted a book link lol!!!!

Wouldn't layer of sugar first be ok if you dipped it in sugar, then egg white wash, then cornstarch batter. Fried veggies are often done in cornstarch. I often put more than one breading layer on foods (don't fry too mcuh now though)and it usually sticks if your oil is hot enough. Don't use egg yolk in your egg wash either - it draws fat and makes stuff greasy due to it's own fat content. Try a few ways and let us know what works.

Hey Mcshell, You're right, but it's a mideval cookbook LOL!!! the only thing on the Net that I could find that Even referenced it! Yup, it would work if you put egg white wash on it, but then you are gonna have a better chance of burning it, and he said he wasn't a great cook LOLOL......i can see the smoke in his kitchen now from getting the oil too hot !
