A few weeks ago I went into one of the Dollar stores and bought a package of that shrinkwrap. It's really neat stuff. How about getting a basket and filling it with things(such as kitchen things, food, cooking tools, spice, ect.) and then use the shrink wrap and tie some ribbon around the top. You could probably make this for $10.00 or so, depending on what you choose to put in it.

If they're rushing off to a honeymoon...especially if they're driving...or even if they're headed home afterwards...make them a basket of food type goodies. They'll probably be too nervous, busy to eat at their reception and be dying for some nice food later on. Get a nice basket (Michaels and JoAnns both have them half off this week) and fill it with some fruit, maybe some wrapped sausage and cheese stuff like you get during the holidays, some crackers, some spread....something like that. Things that won't go bad if it's not kept warm or refrigerated. You may even have some of this stuff in your cabinets already. If you want to include a long-lasting gift, line it with a tablecloth or include cloth napkins. Or, include a couple candles and candlesticks. Or even just a small candydish...complete with candy for dessert of course. Jackie

Thanks for the input!! I decided to go with a collection of French Vanilla candles. I went to a local craft store and got a really good deal on five of them and then I bought a "Yankee" votive candle (scent: Wedding Cake) and got the "bowmaker" to attatch the votive to the bow. I think that she (my friend) will be happy with this. Thanks again!! I even spent under budget!

I'm a little late on this post, but I'll put this in case it helps someone else. One of the best wedding presents I remember was my aunt and uncle bought a white laundry hamper (the rectangular type with lid) and filled it to the brim with flour, sugar, salt, ketchup, mustard, pepper, etc...all the little things you need to stock a kitchen. It was really handy because we were young idiots and hadn't planned ahead by buying any of that stuff LOL

You can get some towels at your local discount store, ones that are pretty decent for not much money. I bought mine at a K-mart. Then go to a Wal-mart or fabric store, buy enough trim to sew on the bottom of them to make decorator towels. I did this for my friends, they loved them. I used lace, but you could use eyelet trim, whatever you want. You just cut the trim so it fits about 1" around the back of each towel, turn the trim under to prevent fraying, and stitch on sewing machine, or by hand if you wish. I did not trim the washcloths, just the hand towels and bath towels. You might just want to do bath towels to keep the cost down. It took me about 2 hours to do towels for a family of 4 people, but it was worth it in the end. For one of the sets I bought light peach color towels and trimmed them with an ecru color eyelet type trim. The peach color showed thru the trim. Good luck with whatever you decide on. Hope I'm not too late with this post, if I am, perhaps you can use this idea for the next wedding. |
