hair highlights?

Does anyone use any type of "at-home" way of highlighting their air? I have heard of using lemon juice and sitting in the sun or tanning..........has anyone used this?

I have heard of that too, but never tried it. Personally, I buy the highlighting kits and only mix up what I need at the time. A kit lasts me for a long time, and no waste.

I have tried lemon juice, lemon juice/lime juice, and even lemon juice with vodka but I haven't noticed any results. I have medium blonde hair, so I layed out in the sun with these on (not all at once) but I could not tell a difference. Some of my friends who used "Sun-In" had their hair turn red. A stylist will also tell you that stuff ruins hair. I myself stick to having a hair stylist highlight my hair. I love the look that I get when they use the foil technique and I'm not sure I could do that at home.

I used lemon juice on my hair last year, never again! It totally dried out my hair, it looked awful. Believe me, that is a bad choice. Now I grit my teeth and pay what the hairdresser wants, at least it looks good then. I also tried those kits you can buy where you pull your hair through a cap. Not sure if they sell those anymore, it has been awhile since I used one. It worked well, but I pulled too much hair through and boy was my hair blonde! I mean, it looked good, 'cause I am naturally a blonde, but when my boyfriend at the time liked brunettes, well...you get the picture.
