Question about double coupons

Hi,

I'm new to using coupons and I had question about double coupons. Just found out one of our local stores doubles coupons up to .99. So if I have a coupon for $1, will I get $1.99 off? What about a coupon for $2 off 4 items, how would that be discounted? How does a buy one get one free get discounted? And finally, what about a coupon for a free item?

Thanks!

If your store will double coupons up to $.99 then a $1.00 coupon will only be worth a dollar. A coupon for $2.00 (even if it is for more than one item) will still be worth $2.

If you have a buy one/get one special on something that say costs $1.50 and you have a coupon worth $.50, you will get a total of $1 off the first item and the other item free (at least that is how it works at our local Kroger).

If you give a cashier a free item coupon, he/she will deduct the price of the item from your total. Make sure you take note of any maximum price on the coupon (it will say something like free whatever product up to ___ price). If the store is selling that item for more than the maximum coupon amount, you will have to pay the difference (the cashier will take off the maximum amount from your total).

Is there a way to get the Sunday paper coupons without having to buy the Sunday paper?...lol. I don't want to visit different websites for coupons, as I don't think those coupons are subject to doubling, are they?

Thanks for any help. I really should start getting the paper again. It was the easiest way for me to clip coupons. Since I stopped having the paper delivered, I haven't used 1 single coupon...

Manufacturer's coupons are subject to doubling as long as they do not say "not subject to doubling" on them. Store coupons are not usually subject to doubling and usually state that as well.

I shop at Ralph's. They double coupons up to $1 for up to 3 like coupons. If I have a $1 coupon, I will get $2 off that product. If I have a $2 coupon, I will get $3 off that item (or whatever the requirements of the coupon are). If I have four $1 coupons for Pampers diapers and I buy four packs, they will only double the first three coupons. If my fourth Pampers coupon is $1.50 off (not $1), then I'll get $2.50 off with the fourth coupon - it's for a like product, but for a diff amount, so not considered a "like coupon". If I have a coupon for $.50 off 2, many times I can throw in one or two cents off 1 coupons for the same product, as well. I do this whenever I can and I have never had any checker at Ralphs (by my old house or my new one) not accept them.

At my store, free is free, up to the maximum allowed that is stated on the computer. If it says up to $3.49 on the coupon and the item is $3.70, then they only take off $3.49. Every now and then I will run into a checker who will just take off the maximum without looking at the register tape for the actual price. So if the item was only $3.19, they'd still give me $3.49 on that coupon.

Ralph's does not take expired coupons. I also have an Albertsons nearby and they do not double coupons, but they do take expired as well as other store's coupons. You did not mention which store you shop at, but your best bet is just to ask them their coupon policy.

Between my Ralphs Club card and my coupons, I usually save $80 - $125 on each of my big shopping trips and come home having spent about $150 on average (after the discounts). I do this about every 2-3 weeks. Good luck and have fun shopping and saving!

Sorry! Forgot to mention the store I use! I usually shop at Shop & Save (in Maine), but Shaw's offers double coupons, so I will be trying them this week to see how much I can save. I also got a mailer from them for $8 off $80 or more, so I should make out pretty good. I'm hoping to save alot with manufacturer's coupons as well. Thanks!

If you don't mind junk mail you can always sign up at mfr's websites (such as Kraft, Betty Crocker etc) and see if there are any snail mail newsletters you can get...I have been getting one from Kikkoman for years, as well as Dove, Pace, and many others.

Also there are several websites that you can go to, to print out coupons - one of them is coolsavings.com. I know there are several others but I'm not sure of the names - you can always run a search on your favorite search engine for printing or printable coupons...

Also you can swap out with friends, relatives, co=workers and start a coupon co=op, trade out for what you need! Kath

At the Krogers and Meijers stores around here, they'll double coupons even if they say "not subject to doubling."

Can we list the stores here that we know double coupons?

I haven't found any in my area yet, but who knows. The one right around the corner might and I just haven't asked.

Here in CT they all double coupons I believe - locally there's Shaw's, Big Y, Stop & Shop, Waldbaum's/FoodMart and several IGA grocer's... Waldbaum's/FoodMart gives you 3 triples weekly w/your store card, some competitors who are in the same towns as W/FM stores will give you 3 triples if you show them your store card! (Shaw's in Newington CT does that)
