Shocked Super Garage Sale Finds last 2 weeks

Had to come list some of my finds-

Mexican Clay Chimnea (SP) - medium size- $1.50!!! Perfect condition- went up to the local plant nursery and they wanted $89 for the same size!

Large Glazed Houseplant pot- saw same one at Pikes for $35 got it for $1!

Fake Christmas tree- med/small but very natural looking- 75 cents!

Bag of 12 really large jingle bells- going to place in a bowl or make a craft- 75 cents

Picket fence plant holder handpainted with pot, soil and seed (like a kit) that had the Waccamaw sticker still on it for $14.99- 50 cents!

Charleston tin (like popcorn comes in) that's handpainted- family is from there and I have seen these at the open air market in downtown Charleston for $20 - 25 cents!!! And a Charleston print that I have seen for $40 for $2!

Small 5 inch Tv/radio- works, needed AC adaptor- had one- FREE

1910 antique sled- really cool... $5

2 wooden stools I am using as a base for 2 of our houseplants- $1 each

Tons of other things- won't bore you but I have spent $50 in the last 2 weeks and come home with a carload each time. I go with my inlaws on Friday mornings and my FIL got a large dining room table, 6 chairs for $10!!! last week- just needed a little TLC and a few coats of polyurethene... it's now a card table in his basement (big for a card table but $10!!).

I was also amazed at people throw away- we went to a country club that had 75 sales on Friday (houses are 300k and up) and I rescued a rubber tree plant that just needs some TLC and my MIL got 15 Tiki Torches (the kind you put the citronella in for bugs) out of a trash pile.

I am addicted! Where we live there are tons of $200K and up neighborhoods and these people give away perfectly good stuff! Most of it hasn't even been used!

Cool finds- have a great weekend! It's fun to bring these home, clean them up and find new places for them around the house. I may not shop retail again- haha

Oh WOW Traci! I love going to yard/garage sales and I'm sooooo lucky because all the boys and the DH love going as well!
When you find even ONE good deal for the day, it sure makes up for the days you were left a little disappointed. It's too cold here now to have them and I'm afraid I didn't make it to as many as I normally would this past Summer..'tis alright tho since there's ALWAYS next year Congrats on your wonderful loot!

Love Thanks Mouse!

We have them here almost year round. They will slow down a little in November and December but you can find them most weekends.

I know what you mean- Mike went out this morning for 2 hours and came home emptyhanded.

Mike has had some great finds- he got an edger mower BRAND NEW for $5 once- the owner let the oil and gas mix and didn't feel like messing with fixing it. Mike also got a reelmower- the hand mower with no power- brand new for $10 last weekend. He's always wanted one of those.

It's fun and I love to decorate the house- this is a fun way to do so on a dime! LITERALLY.

Still owe you an email, Mouse- will do once the dang email comes back up- it's been on the blink since Wed!

Great finds, Traci! Talk about a natural high!

I'm with you both! I love garage-saling, but for dh, it's a different story. I like having them too - gets that spring cleaning done and gives you a little cash to get something much needed or do something extra!

Sounds like you hit the jack pot. You can find some real good bargains at garage sales.
I haven't been this year but I love them and auctions too.
Your right it is funny some of the stuff people will pitch.
Have you noticed that if you go back close to closing time sometimes you can get the whole table just for nothing by making a offer. Lots of people don't want to clean up the mess so sell real cheap.

Tongue True

Mike's parents and grandparents are garage sale gurus on both having them and going to them. We always get Mike's grandmother to have one right before we go on vacation and that's our spending cash for our trip to the beach!

It's amazing- Mike's grandparents will have one- I'll come away with $100- plus and thrilled. They make $2000- but they sell a lot of tools and furniture.

They find the most amazing things- one time Cecil ( step GF) bought a small curio cabinet for $5- took it home and found $100 in change in it!

It is a natural high and Mike loves all the garden stuff I find.
The key is to go Friday- I am learning the ropes but it's nice going with the in laws- nice time with them one on one- MIL researches the sales in the paper and maps our course at and FIL drives us around. Can't beat it! We were out 5 hours yesterday and went to over 100 sales.

How fun! I'm sure I'll be hitting some garage sales once we're in our new house. So much of our stuff I don't even want to take inside......even though garage sale stuff is used, doesn't mean it's bad, and used or not, it's fun getting something new to me!

I also like hitting the consignment stores. I do a lot of my kids clothes shopping that way. Not as great of a deal as garage sales, but they're really organized and a lot of time I can find Gymboree, Osh Kosh, and Gap clothes CHEAP! I just got my girls some Gymbo leggins for $1.25 each. I left $50 later, but had two plastic grocery bags stuffed with really nice kids clothes! As soon as we move I'll be hitting the furniture consignment shops!

I'm coming to Georgia. That sounds really neat. I too love garage sales, but can't get up early enough to go to them. However, my Saturday thing is going to auctions, just love to do that. Can't drag dh to one, but it is a nice hobby that I can do by myself. Wish I could find stuff like you have, you made quite a haul. Congrats.

I LOVE yard sales!! I've found countless things, including antique quilts, for next to nothing!

My dh doesn't mind when I haul stuff home except for some reason he doesn't like it when I buy used clothing for our kids. Too bad, I do it anyway, I mean, it goes right in the wash when I get home! I figure if it still looks good after being worn a lot by other kids and washed several times, it has to be well made. I remember buying new items that just fell apart after one washing.

Too bad we don't have yard sales in the winter here, way too cold. So I have to suffer until May when they start up again.

*awesome* 38 inch round light colored wood kitchen dinette set with 4 matching upolstered chairs. cloth on chairs was a little stained but a $3 bottle of woolite upolstery cleaner took care of that. we paid $50 for the dinnette set and felt like we were robbing her! almost bought a very similar set on jcpenny.com for over $230 s/h including the current 25% of promo code of 'FSPRON'

yippie!!!!!

I know what you mean about people throwing stuff away. In the last two weeks I found 916 8 oz. bottles of antibacterial hand soap and a powerwheels in the trash. I spoke with the man who had the boxes of hand soap at the curb. Pharmacudical rep who had too many "samples" that they give to dr's....I literally got $1,000.00 that night! I gave a bunch away and will sell some at a garage sale in the spring. Same with the powerwheels.

Reneek is welcome here
Thanks for the tip on Alpharetta, Traci

I used to live in Cobb, so the trip to Alpharetta wouldn't be too far, but now that I've moved to Paulding County.....I'm still willing to check it out! Perhaps you can give me hints about what areas you usually go to......;-D
