at my kroger if something rings up wrong, it's free! also, they have a freshness policy and if you find something expired, bring it with you along with an in date fresh product and you get that free too!!!! you'd be surprised that you can often find bakery and bread items (sometime yogurt) that has expired weeks ago!!!!! |

| ohhh, bethie,
i know about the wrong ring up policy, but didn't about the freshness date. thanks. i'll keep my eyes peeled! paula. p.s. i was in cincy last weekend and they were doubling 1.00 coupons!! not here yet, but maybe they'll do that on a larger market scale if it worked well.

In Dallas, the Albertson's grocery store does the same thing. There have been a few times we have saved $5 or $10 on our grocery bill. They will also regularly charge you less than the regular price if the system can't find the UPC.

The best thing about Kroger is the free coupons! I have been getting these for about a year now, and I have saved hundreds of dollars! And, they double and triple them so that the items are sometimes free... Enjoy!!! [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |

Does the Kroger site ever have coupons for its Private Selection or FMV brands? Kroger is a parent company of my local grocery store, but they don't carry the Kroger brand. Thanks for the link! |

We have Kroger in Kansas--all Dillons stores. They triple coupons once in awhile but I've never heard about the free items. Our stores have the member card so it can be a hassle. Sometimes they say cheaper with card but it isn't, it's more. Have to compare to get best price. We've noticed their service has gone down since they started with the card. They use to do alot of extras like special order, etc. Not anymore. A super Wallmart is moving in across the street--think they will give them a run for the money---hope so. Seems like Kroger forced other smaller mom & pop atores out of the market and when they closed down then Kroger stopped being so nice. |

janelle...you're soooo right..when Krogers first brought out the card you really did seem to get a good deal. Now it's just a bunch off phewie. I didn't even get a card, my Mom gave me one of hers for her keyring and I don't think I've used it, but maybe 4 times now since they started all of this hype. Meijers is right down the street from Krogers and many times it's like they base their prices on the sales Krogers is having, not to mention they match other store prices as well. They have even taken to putting up a Krogers ad in the area right as you enter into the store..LOL! I've seen more Meijer bags floating around my Mom's house also these days..LOL!

Be carefull about buying stuff at Food Lion. Maybe it's just my local store, but they are awfull! I've had "cooked" chicken that was completely raw under the fried crust mix. I've seen yogurt and stuff their that expired six whole weeks ago. They don't keep their cold sections cold enough and a lot of the time food will go bad before you even buy it. I've also gotten slimy lunch meat from them that even my dog and cat wouldn't eat. They've given me food poisoning a couple of times, needless to say, I don't shop their anymore.

Someone mentioned the UPONS site...it is really good, and you can get other grocery coupons on there other than Kroger... You do a quick sign up, then you can get manufacturer's coupons you can use at any grocery store....then click on visit partners sites and it'll list all the grocery stores they partner with...click for the store you want and select your coupons...they mail them to you so you don't need a printer...they are true 'free' coupons. I made a little website with the links to this and other savings sites; [Only registered and activated users can see links. | hey madclikr,
heck yeah! there isn't a food lion here, but didn't they get SLAMMED by 20/20 a few years ago? would soak out of date poultry in bleach, then resell, stuff like that. ugh!! glad you don't shop there anymore! and, yes, that kroger card is a nuisance. the deals aren't better, they're just what would have been on sale normally. now you have to have the card. and when meijers came to lou. a few years ago, all the local stores perked up. now meijers is no better than anybody else. and here's a question, how does winn dixie even stay in business? they are terrible AND the most expensive in town!! we need a new food seller here...

| Kroger???
Used to shop at Kroger, until HEB Pantry moved in next door (that's a Texas chain). I got their stupid card when it came out. Boy-oh-boy do I despise those things. Do you have to ASK to get the item free if it rings up wrong? At ours, every time I've pointed out an incorrect scan (and I'm *really* nice about it) they've given me dirty looks. Then the checker sends a sacker to the aisle to check it, makes her/his impatience very clear to me and all the people in line behind me, and then corrects the price with no grace at all. They not only don't give the item free, they act like you're trying to steal and hold up traffic just by asking a question. ...and just imagine how they act if it turns out the customer wasn't right -- happened to me once, simple confusion, and they made it pretty d*mn clear they thought I was little better than a shoplifter. Nope, don't think I'll ever ask for the item free. They'd call the police. I hardly ever shop there anymore. On rare occasions (2-3 times a year) I will "take advantage" of a great sale price. The last was BOGO hot dogs, combined with a coupon (I had several duplicates, so I put hot dogs in the freezer). Got 6 or 8 packages of premium brand beef hot dogs for something like 68 cents per package after BOGO and doubled coupon. That's it. Their regular prices are sky high. I am frugal-by-necessity and don't bother with them. Also, all the Kroger stores here have gone "upscale" in the last couple of years. Ptooey on wine cooling sinks and cigar humidors filled with overpriced, dried out, yuppie cigars. (But that's a whole 'nother topic, isn't it? A topic for the UNfrugal living forum.) |
