Going Voip to cut cost on long distance calls

Hi guys...how many are here using voip for their long distance calls? Are you using Voip as a primary telephone service or just for back up and long distance calls?

Well I jumped the Voip bandwagon and decided to deactivate my long distance service so my landline now can call local calls or 800 number only. I signed up with Onesuite and subscribe to their voip service that will charge me $2.95 a month for getting a phone number with incoming calls included. Outgoing calls will be charge as pay as you use or pay as go as most people call it.

Using a voip service has led me into thinking that will save me a bunch for frequent callers like me because the rate difference is huge. At the same time, when I travel I can always make phone calls without having to worry about buying a phone card or getting billed by my hotel for long distance calls. Well I just need to carry my HP notebook which I do most of the time with me and find a wifi hotspot or connect to a hotel internet connection.

Onesuite by the way is a prepaid phone card and not a voip provider per se, they only have voip feature that you can use.

There's also one product I am looking that will lead me to cut my land line altogether. That product is called MagicJack. I still need to study their services very carefully before I decide if I am going voip all the way or stick with my land line at the moment.

What do you guys think?

cut your landlines completely.
the cell phone ist cheaper monthy.
especially if you say you work for a company that your cell phone provider gives a 25% discount.

Re: Going Voip to cut cost on long distance calls

I have a cell phone but on a very limited plan...its like a back up or emergency phone at most.

I'm really thinking of cutting my landline and going voip all the way but I still need to see if or what problem if theres any I will run into Onesuite voip but so far I have very few complains...I guess those are the times when my internet connection got some lags not Onesuite fault I guess.

I don't have a landline, and use Packet 8 VOIP service. I'm really happy with it. At 1st, I had problems with call sound quality, but I got a better quality phone and that took care of the problem. There are several things to consider with VOIP service, like 911 service (have to be sure that the one you choose offers that), and the fact that if your internet connection goes down, you lose your phone service. I can call the whole USA, Great Britain and a few other countries in that area for free and my monthly bill is only $35. I'm sold on it!

Re: Going Voip to cut cost on long distance calls

I'm keeping my landline at the moment because no matter what VOIP provider you choose, be Packet 8, Vonage, Viatalk or even Onesuite, if your internet service goes down or if there's a power failure then your communication is affected. I know its not like power failures happen all the time nor internet downtime...but when it happens you need someway of communication to outside word. Say I want to report internet downtime in my area, how can I do that if my phone is internet dependent right?

So for the moment, I'm still holding back on going VOIP all the way and still be using my Onesuite voip for most of the calls but at least I know I have a landline as a back up.

Though my mobile phone serves as my back up already so honestly I am confused. Well I'm still new to this Voip so if its reliable to use as an everyday phone then I might change my mind and ditch the landline altogether.

I completely agree that VoIP is the cheapest way to call long distance. Just make sure you have a back up service just in case theres a power failure or your internet goes down. I'm also a Onesuite user and so far I'm happy with the service. I only spend around $12 monthly that includes calls to U.K. and some parts of Asia.

Re: Going Voip to cut cost on long distance calls

I've been using VoIP for a couple of years and dropped my landline last year but retained my cell phone for emergency purposes and out of town trips. My general impression of VoIP is it is cheap and acceptable way of communication though don't expect landline clarity.

If you are a heavy long distance caller then savings is about 50 percent plus the fact that even if you travel and as long as you can get access to a good connection then then you'll get to save on long distance calls or even overseas calls.

I used quite a few voip providers and my least favorite is Vonage. Sunrocket is very good but was mismanaged by a certain Lisa Hook I signed up with Teleblend a few days after but they can not get their acts together so I asked for a refund after 3 weeks and I give props to them for making it easy for me to get my money back. Now I am using and trying Onesuite. It is compatible with most ATA devices though don't expect help from them because at the moment they only support SJ labs softphone software. Onesuite being a phonecard and voip is a plus because you can use any of the two services anytime. The phone card service comes handy especially if you are not at home with limited or no access to the internet.

Just to let you know :
We have residential packages starting at 9.99 a month.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

From what I have seen, compared to the other brands our prices look great.

You can even have a pots line with the VoIP. There are just so many features.
One has it where if the electricity goes out your calls ring to your cell phone.

Re: Going Voip to cut cost on long distance calls

I finally switched to voip on my long distance calls and just signed up with Onesuite yesterday after reading some good things about them on the net. I also found this coupon code PHPROMO and gave me additional 10% on my sign up amount. The coupon by the way is good only this April.

Onesuite +1

Been using Onesuite for almost a year now (since SunRocket went out of business) and been happy with the service so far. Rates are good and call quality are great.
