| Saving money on plants
If you are looking to buy plants for your garden, start checking the grocery stores late August (at least in the Northeast USA). I have gotten deals on plants that usually cost $8 to $10 and gotten them for 99 cents, a $1.50, etc. You won't be able to enjoy them this year. But they will set down roots and come back even stronger then a new plant you put in the ground in spring. One tip: Get a little hay. mulch, etc. and cover the newer plants. It will help them survive the Winter, although most will make it on their own.

| Re: Saving money on plants
Garden centers often put perennials on clearance at the end of the season. Though the plants may look tired, they'll bounce back in spring. Annuals typically go on sale in early to midsummer and often put on good growth within a few weeks of planting. Exception: Ornamental grasses. Buy young grasses early in the season and let them mature through the summer into the larger plants nurseries often sell at four times the cost.
