Energy Saving Tip...

Do laundry in the morning or afternoon. By doing your laundry in the morning or afternoon, you avoid heating your home up and making your air conditioner work over time.

Hope you Like!!

Re: Energy Saving Tip...

Hi,

We got a pamplet in our electric bill that said that if we used as much of our daily electricity before 8:00am or 8:00pm, the rates would be lower then. I don't know if that's true in every state, but this is in CT....so I try to do my baking and such during the times the electric company posted. Maybe other states have something similar?

Kat

Re: Energy Saving Tip...

I don't know about your state, but in mine, you have to sign up for that kind of billing (non-primetime usage). They ran a comparison for me, and it might only save me a dollar or two a month, so I stayed with my regular plan.

But the 'doing your drying in the morning or late evening' makes sense, so your a/c doesn't work overtime to counteract that additional heat.

Re: Energy Saving Tip...

Our Electric company doesn't do that, our rates are the same all the time, no matter what time of day it is. We did have a company, when we lived somewhere else a few years back that did that, and I was always up doing laundry and stuff at 3 or 4am. LOL! But it cut down on the bill by over $25 a month, so it was worth it.

Yes, even now, I run our dryer in the hot summer months late evening or early morning, so our AC doesn't have to fight the heat from that and raise our bill.

Re: Energy Saving Tip...

We have that from 9pm - 9am, and all weekend long. I signed up for it - peak usage. I also pay the exact same amount every month so I'm not surprised in the summer. I dry all my clothes outside, I partly dry towels in the dryer then hang them out to dry (mostly use the dryer for lint removal). I hang my quilts out to dry. I dry rags in the dryer. One thing that did help a super lot with my a/c usage is getting solar sunscreens on all the windows. My ceiling fans run all year long except in the winter months. Last month (and it was extremely hot all month long) my actual usage was $67.13 not including taxes and surcharges, etc. That isn't bad at all considering how hot it was. Normal winter use is about $35.00. I pay $105 all year 'round to make up for the monsoon season when I will be using the a/c almost 24/7.

Re: Energy Saving Tip...

I don't use comforters. I sleep w/o sheets. I use a variety of lightweight quilts. One on the bottom (like your bottom sheet) turned upsidedown... soft side to my skin, and the other like a top sheet turned right side up so it feels very soft and lightweight to me. I don't wear jammies, etc. It does get a bit warm w/the dogs though. lol I quit the sheets about 2 years ago. I know it sounds strange, but it's actually a better sleep - think of how you feel when you lay down on the sofa with just a quilt wrapped around you!
