Something i've had trouble with is dingy clothes cause we have hard water. I add one cup of amonia with my detergent and one cup of white vinegae to my final rinse. It really works wonders and my washrags don't have that sour smell. You can also soak clothes in this also for really dirty or smelly clothes. One thing though DO NOT PUT BLEACH IN THE WATER. You might have a new style of clothes when finished.

Another tip to help whiten your whites, if you have a dishwasher and use those electrosol tablets, toss one into your washer with the load of clothes. They usually last through two loads, I tried this and was totally surprised at how white they came out, especially my sons much abused socks since 10 year olds love to wade in mud! LOL! Since I use coupons and buy tons of dishwasher detergent at once when I get a good deal, my cost for doing this every now and then in a load of clothes is minuscule and I save money by not having to buy bleach or ammonia. |

A friend of mine used soft scrub on her son's white shirt that had some stains on it-she said it worked. I don't buy soft scrub so I haven't tried it.
