Tip for saving money on textbooks

I just bought my books for Spring. I hate buying them online and then not having access to them for a week or more. Instead what I do is buy them at the book store at school. Then I go online and look for them cheaper. I buy them at the cheaper price...so now I have 2 copies - one from the bookstore and one on the way in the mail. I then return the bookstore ones when the ones come in the mail, making sure to do so before my bookstore's return deadline. This works well for me since I can't get my book list that far in advance like some schools. I bought all used in the bookstore, but I still saved $113.24 buying them online instead. That's quite a chunk of cash. Good luck to everyone in the Spring semester!

Re: Tip for saving money on textbooks

Good idea! I would do the same but this semester I bought my books from the private bookstore instead of the university bookstore. The books were very cheap there and only cost me $260 this semester, which isn't too bad!

My calculus book was $89 used at the university bookstore and $69 used at the private bookstore!! But I am still going to search online and if I can save some money I may try and do that.

What sites do you use to find your books? I've only done Half.com and Amazon. Are there any others you know of?

Re: Tip for saving money on textbooks

i used to use a textbook comparison site, but can't remember the name...darn...sorry. but anyway...90% of the time, my books end up being cheapest at half.com. Let me know if you find anywhere cheaper

my books came to about the same as yours...they are just so expensive...

Re: Tip for saving money on textbooks

I went to Amazon and bought my two textbooks. I sold the ones I had and made like $200. My books paid for themselves.

In Pa, if you are low income you can get reimbursed for the cost of books from your local DPA office, thank goodness because Andywon's were over $400 this semster!

Re: Tip for saving money on textbooks

Hello all, I'm new to the board.

I'm in school as well adn I get a lot of my books/supplies from Half Price Books. Also I go to Amazon and Barnes and Noble.com. And if you go through Mypoints. com, there's a reward for it.

I found a piano book that was selling for $80 in the bookstore for only $15 at 1/2 Price.

Wish you the same look!!
