Question Does anyone know how to make play-doh for kids?

Help!

I want to make some play-doh for my son who is almost 20 months old! I know there is a recipe out there...does anyone have it?

I've heard if you make it from home it is okay if they eat it (which is why I don't want to buy the store-brand stuff.)

Thanks.

Re: Does anyone know how to make play-doh for kids?

I don't know about eating this recipe, but it's the only one I have.

Baker's Clay

4 cups flour
1 cup salt
1½ cup water (to start)

Do not halve or double recipe.
Mix together all ingredients and knead 5 minutes.
Shape and bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour or until hardened. Paint with acrylic paints.

Re: Does anyone know how to make play-doh for kids?

From The Preschooler's Busy Book by Trish Kuffner:

1 cup water
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 cup salt
1 Tbsp cream of tartar
food coloring
1 cup flour

Combine water, oil, salt, cream of tartar, and food coloring in a saucepan and heat until warm. Remove from heat and add flour. Stir, then knead until smooth. Keep in mind that the cream of tartar makes this dough long-lasting, up to 6 months or longer, so resist the temptation to leave it out if you don't have it on hand. This dough should be stored in an airtight container or Ziplock bag. Do not refrigerate.

Haha, a couple years ago, my daughter and I made ornaments with this recipe and left them out overnight. When my husband came home, he thought they were cookies and he ate one! So, yes, this recipe is safe to eat.

Re: Does anyone know how to make play-doh for kids?

This recipe is edible and safe for any and all ages.

1/3-part peanut butter
1/3-part dry powdered milk
1/3-part honey

Mix well and knead for a few minutes until dough sticks together. Refrigerate leftovers in airtight container to keep for a week or more.

I got this recipe from Debi Pearl at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now].

Hi,

As long as your craft paint is water based and it probably is, there shouldn't be any problem with her using it. Have fun!

This is a recipy for edible playdoh

1/2 C peanut butter
1/2 C honey
1 C powdered milk

Just throw it all together and mush it up with your hands until its fairly smooth. The oils from the peanut butter will keep it from sticking to the table and the kids' hands.
