Re: Homemade Ant killer Well, short of poison, there really isn't any sure fire way to kill them all. I use a sort of garlic stuff and that seems to work on them. I would just get some good old bug spray and make sure that you don't leave anything out that would attract them. ![]()

| Re: Homemade Ant killer Hi, Ants do not like peppermint, so if you can get ahold of peppermint essential oil in your local herbal store, or online, put some in a spritzer bottle w/ a little water and they'll be gone. Alternative way, plant some mint plants in decorative small pots in the room - that ought to do it as well. Kat ![]()

Re: Homemade Ant killer I just made the ant killer because my kitchen is being taken over! The only problem I had is that the mixture is seeping out thru the holes...did I do this correctly?! I used cotton balls, I cut the mixture in half and used a small margarine container. I put holes 1/8 inch up from the bottom of the container. I didn't have any boric acid but used bleach instead. I used a yeast, sugar, etc mixture a few years ago and it worked great. This time around I couldn't find my recipe but found something similar online...but it hasn't worked at all this time. I can't figure out where they're coming in...I'm really frustrated. They had gotten into the pantry and were all in the sugar and honey.

Regarding the Homemade Ant Killer: My problem is that the ants, some red and some black have invaded my garden, with about 5 hills all around my property. The worst being that they have attacked a large 50 foot pine in my backyard garden. The pine attacked back by emitting a sap trail all down the truck which caught and disabled the ants that got stuck in the sap. But there are more ants than sap. I do not want the Pine to die, can the borax mixture hurt the pine? Michelle Last edited by mumsemail; 08-21-2007 at 05:56 PM. Reason: spelling

Re: Homemade Ant killer Try a small dish (or container lid) with a bit of dry laundry detergent. Any scented powder works. The scent will attract them, they take it back to the colony as food, the whole colony eats it and dies.

Re: Homemade Ant killer Home Depot (and probably other stores) sells a product called Terro. They're clear baits with a boric acid solution in them. You cut a thin strip from the bottom and lay it flat where you see ants. The ants crawl in, take the solution back to their colony and they die off. I've used everything and have had countless exterminators come in to spray (which I can't stand). My neighbor recommended this to us and we bought it last year. It will attract a lot of ants in the beginning but they will eventually die off. I love this. I just bought some more today because I saw a few ants in the bathroom and plan on putting them around. Good luck!
