Cheap Ideas For Kid's Outdoor Play Areas?

I was thinking about some things to maybe make for my 3 year old to encourage her to be outside playing this year. We have a swing set that was given to us by a friend, but I was thinking about maybe a sandbox or a tepee. Does anyone know of any neat places to go on the internet to check out how to build these things? Thanks!

Of course, my BIL would die if I put this in my yard. He has lots of bird feeders in his yard and is always mad when the squirrels get at them. He doesn't like squirrels...lol. I don't mind them and my dd loves to see them in the yard. My dh isn't going to like it, but I'm going to see if he could make this...thanks again!

I went to yard sales and bought all the little tikes products there, I got the 300.00 log cabin for 40.00....for her whole play ar ea it was really cheap... about 350.00..........this year since she is almost 4 I sold all that stuff at a garage sale and bought one of those big wooden swingsets pretty cheap....it was 1300 and will last for her whole childhood...break it down to a yearly cost and you can't beat it!

Small inexpensive blow up kiddie pools make great sand boxes. At the end of the season they can be thrown away.

If you want something 'small and portable' you could improvise and make a sandbox out of a Rubbermaid-type container.
Your lil one can sit and play without actually sitting IN the sandbox. The sand toys can store right in the box, plus you can cover it up when you're not using it
Great idea for people that live in apt's & condos with decks, etc

Re: Cheap Ideas For Kid's Outdoor Play Areas?

My two year old loves using a railroad tie as a balance beam. He loves to practice walking across it and jumping off of it.

When my daughter was small and we went to mommy and me, they also used Rubbermaid containers with sand. They also filled them with rice. The kids loved playing with them. You can use sand toys with them and you can put the lid on when they're done.

Growing up I always though tree houses were the coolest place to play. I would use scrap wood to build mine, which isn't the safest. But you can buy some lumber and make one rather easily. I'd recommend it
