Looking for homemade liquer recipes

Does anyone have any easy homemade liquer recipes? I would like to make homemade kahlua for some of my friends as Christmas presents. Also, what kind of bottles should I keep it in? Any idea on where to find cheap bottles?

Thanks....

Lori

khalua

got this from [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] havent tried it but it sounds good.

Coffee Liqueur

The cheap alternative to Kahlua! Add to your coffee, pour over ice cream, just serve as an after dinner drink.

1 1/2 cups powdered instant coffee
3 cups boiling water
6 cups sugar
1 vanilla bean
1 bottle (750 milliliters) vodka
Dissolve the instant coffee in the water in a large saucepan. Add sugar and vanilla bean and simmer over a low heat, stirring constantly until it becomes syrupy.

Remove from heat, allow to cool, then stir in the vodka.

Pour mixture into a gallon container (glass or earthenware). Cover tightly and let stand for at least 30 days. Yield about 2 quarts.

the bottles must be ones that can be sealed tightly. here is a place you can buy bottles of all sorts

I may have to try making some kahlua some time this year. I have read that you should use part brandy for the kahlua to have an authentic taste as opposed to all vodka.

good luck.

Love good place for alcohol recipes...

A friend and I discovered [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] a couple years ago, and you can find just about ANY kind of alcoholic recipes on it that you can come up with (there are some few non-alcoholic ones as well)! I've found numerous ones for Kahlua and many other liquers, as well as some unique mixed drinks that sounded different, but turned out fabulous! My friend and I made some homemade Kahlua last year using a recipe from there that was similiar to the ones below... While it tasted good, it was definitely missing something, maybe that brandy suggestion, I don't know.

One suggestion on recipes at Webtender: like any other recipes, go by what ingredients you like (and your common sense) to help judge if you'll like the finished product, but also pay attention to their rating system when deciding what to try.

Enjoy!!

Wow...Rafala and hopeless, I'm so sorry I haven't responded sooner. I forgot I posted this question. Thank you both so much for your recipes. I can't wait to try some of them out.

Yummy!

Love made some khalua

after reading this post and looking for recipes, i decided to make some and try it. figured good gifts for neighbors. well, last week was 30 days and i bottled it up and then friday i was at a neighbors house and we tried some. tasted just like khalua. dont think it was as strong but it tasted great!! i will definately be giving it to some neighbors for the holidays. I made 10 10 oz bottles for the price of a large bottle of vodka. if i make it again i may try a better brand of vodka. i went middle of the road, not wanting to waste it if it didnt work out. there is still time to make some if you are looking for a good gift for friends.

Oh, I am so jealous! I never had the time to do this project. Every year I want to do it, but the holidays just come so quick and then it is rush rush rush. I'm glad the khalua came out great. Let me know which recipe you ended up using, so I can try to do it after the holidays. I think I am giving up on the gift idea...lol!

Did you store it in the bottles for the 30 days or did you store it somewhere else for 30 days and then bottle it? Also, what kind of bottles did you use? Lastly, what is the shelf life on homemade liquer?

Thanks!
Lori
