Is there a way to keep track of which freebies you've done and which one's you have to try again later, etc, etc, etc,? It is getting to be sooooooo confusing. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |

I fully understand you.......and what could make it even more confusing is ..... when people keep posting the same thing over again. I posted a post about a free post-it dispencer...... the next day someone else posted........ then people replied saying thank you...... Those people did not even look back or do a search to see if it had been posted. P.S. I also think we need MORE mods. Since alot of new people have come. And the new ones need to do a good job ...... just as well as the older ones ![]() ------------------ America's Teen Freebie Queen [This message has been edited by Blossom281 (edited 10-17-2000).] |

This is to reply, not to the question exactly, but perhaps to some of the problem that we are having with duplicate postings. I read Blossom's note about the dispenser and since I was the one who posted it the day after she did (I found this out after looking back over each day)I knew without a doubt that I had searched. I had learned my lesson early on.... I am no computer expert, but I did notice that Blossom's site was listed as [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] and mine was listed as [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] See the difference, evidently the search does not. Let's all try to control our aggravation with the individuals who may repost because of this type of thing. I know that I searched and no results were found. Any ideas how to fix and/or change this??? |

| The freebie tracker has been in the works by some of the administrators here at Deal of Day and should be available soon... As for the duplicate posts.. Yes, it becomes frustrating at times. Every single deal board out there experiences this same problem. We as moderators make every effort to delete the old one's but will miss some here and there. The search button? Well, yes it does have it's faults. First off it is TINY and most people don't know it's there. Again, DOD has been working on improving the size and the quality of the searches. It may seem like a small task but it definitely is not.. there are many things within the "guts" of the program that require work in order for this to happen.. and they are working on it. Patience, Time, Cooperation and Understanding.. is what it takes. If you see a very recent duplicate post, simply bump it up and advise it is a duplicate or better yet.. copy & paste the web address for the page it is on and e-mail it to one of the moderators assigned to that forum. I am not a computer expert......... but I do do searches with the key words ( post- it note dispencer ) I am not getting mad at YOU personally .... I was just using it as an example. I guess that I am getting my panties in a bunch ....... it IS very confusing and sometimes insulting ( I personally think ) when someone does a repost. It wastes both the reposters time and others. Nothing comes out of the deal. Some times the post might be on the other page. It does not hurt to look back one or two pages. I am not mad ....... I just want to stress people look back a tow pages or do a search using key words.......maybe not links. ------------------ America's Teen Freebie Queen |

Here's what you do: Go to an office store and buy a 3x5 card file box. They have long ones (about 12" long). You can start out with the plastic boxes, but you'll out grow it right away. These boxes are hard paper-type stuff and have a lid and an adjustible support inside to hold card in place even when there are only a few. The boxes come indifferent designs at different stores (like video/ photo boxes). Also, buy 3x5 index cards and 3x5 cards with A,B,C,.... tabs on them. When you sit down at the computer, pull the box out from a shelf. Put the lid on the bottom so the box is open right next to your key board. Each time you do an offer, write down the website name/ address on the top of the card and file it. You can do this really quickly! You can put down what the freebie/deal is right under that. You can date it and even put down anything else you want. if the deal is open to more than 1 per household, you can puy the initials down of whoever already did it. For orders, you can note the order number. I think the date is REALLY helpful because you can try a freebie again if you didn't get it months ago...or..if u need to dispute an order with a company, etc. You can use deals you find on this board to fund these purchases. |

Blossom, the search here at DOD is anything but perfect. When I do a search, I try to do several, with all the key words, but people who are new at this don't know that. And there's no reason to berate them for it. We, as moderators, are in a catch-22 when it comes to duplicates - if we leave them, we get people complaining about duplicates. If we delete them, we get people complaining that their post has been deleted. It's a very sticky situation. ------------------ DealofDay.com Save Money, Have Fun! feel free to email me at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |

I personally do not mind when a good deal is reposted because I have come across a bunch of reposts that I missed the first time around because the first time around it went so quickly to the second page. I have better things to worry about (world peace, global warming, the upcoming election/LOL) and besides a search is not always effective.

Ok...here's my little 2 cents I was always putting in the url, but like posted before that doesn't always work, well...it doesn't always fit as well...most of the time I just put in [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or
Register Now] most of the time it works, either it's in the url or it's in the post itself..ex: Free pen from whatever.com I have a hard time trying to use the freebie item itself...you can be there all day ![]() I noticed this past week it has worked a lot (www.whatever.com)...a lot more than I wanted it too...hee hee...that meant I couldn't post it as a new offer BUMP BUMP BUMP!! Have good one folks!

I don't understand all this worrying and fussing over who posted when, who posted what, that wasn't searched, yadda yadda yadda. A lot of the reposts are new to some people and if they are not to you, I think my Mom said it best, Don't sweat the small stuff....I think we could just be nice and realize we are all gonna make mistakes??? Just my 2 cents...and now I am gonna worry about something of significance...not this...Sincerely, Cindy

I use the same search as mouse stated-www.whatever.com and it usually will pop right up if it's a repost. I've found that to be the most accurate! Although long nights and early mornings can cause a repost from anyone!! LOL And cindy, I think the reason it upsets so many, is that they have only a limited amount of time on puter and wading through repost uses that timeframe up! The posts are archived, rather than deleted, so that newbies or anyone can check for older posts at their own pace. And finally, LOL, I use a big binder with my FREE Avery dividers (with tabs) to keep all info!! Works great for me! Sorry to be so long winded!! Take care all, cfam

Peopla are mad because ... some not all are breaking the rules .... some do not use keywords or links and wonder why nothing comes up or they do not do a search period. I personally think if you are new to the board go back a couple of pages 5 at the max. I aslo seen people who are not new not do a search... All I know is that it is not getting better at all...maybe instead of closing threads that they should delete them if they were a repeat and just bump the orginal. If people get mad ... just tell them it was a repost. ------------------ America's Teen Freebie Queen |
