I thought it was really neat when we hooked it up the whole family had a ball bring things to scan to see if that company had a website or not the kids where bringing there toys and games. it sure beats looking on a search engine. the cue cat takes you right to the website where you bought the product or right to the co. website. pretty neat.

Lisa1013: Don't go for it just yet. Do a search for cue cat, because I could just swear I read a horror story about it messing up someone's computer. I could be wrong, but I'm not 100% sure that everyone's had good experiences with it.

sorry about above post - technical difficulties! lol

I did not find any articles/mention of computer meltdowns, but I did find some info. on privacy issues. The CueCat, remember, has to take you to IT'S computer before sending you to the site of the product you scanned. So, basically, this company knows who you are and what you've been scanning. Not a big deal, but kind of invasive.

Honestly, I hooked mine up and was bored with it within 4 days and haven't touched it since. I also read the article (I think it was in Neat Net Tricks newsletter, awesome newsletter BTW....www.neatnettricks.com)about it being an semi-invasion of privacy on their part but I don't know enough about what they can actually do to me by knowing what I am scanning or where I surf to, but just the thought of someone keeping track of my moves is a little unsettling. I just really got a kick out of it the first few days and then just kinda set it aside and didn't bother with it. After a while it started getting in my way and I was cleaning my computer desk one day and took it off and threw it in a drawer. You might try it just to see how it works, it is kinda neat but not exciting enough to keep my attention...LOL And it don't take much to do that...LOL

I got my cue cat from radio shack and played with it for about half an hour....not impressed yet but i see its potential. i just saw an infomercial on tv for it and in time, i believe its going to be of real value. remember, its new and they have a lot of refining to do. one of its features is to link to your tv and you can surf to info that the tv is showing. im interested in that part but dont know if hubby wants a big "c" showing up on the tv all the time. anyone try this feature yet??

Here are some links from a news letter I get if anyone is interested in tweaking their cue cat.....
"Hacking the CueCat barcode scanner. This looks like a trend: company does
a really bad job at security, and then attempts to use lawyers to "solve"
their problem." [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]
And there's a security advisor on how the CueCat is tracking users: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]
Hacking the CueCat (this URL is often busy...keep trying): [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]
Disabling the serial-number on the unit: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]
A list of freely available alternative drivers: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]
How to disable the weak cryptography used by the unit: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

Hey Lisa, do a search under cue cat and a couple of people including me and my aunt (pooncat) have had problems with their computer's desktop shrinking, freezing up, and others. I put mine away in a box and really don't think I'll be using it anymore. But then again, I've heard really good things about it from others. It also depends on how much use you have for it. For me, it wasn't much, once the newness of it wore off, I didn't use it. But if you have a purpose for it and it doesn't mess up your computer then by all means cue away!
