I mentioned this is a reply to an earlier post, but thought it deserved it's own posting: eVoice - http:\\www.evoice.com - offers free voice mail, using your home phone number (your callers don't have to use an 800 number to reach you), and allows you to check your voice mail via the web, have it forwarded to your email address, or call an 800 number to get it over the phone. eVoice sets up call forwarding on your phone number (at their own expense), and the only "cost" to you is that when you check your voice mail over the phone, you listen to one 15-second ad while they retrieve your messages (even if you have 50 messages, you only hear one ad!). If you check it via the web, there's a banner ad on the page, and each email has an ad. Your callers will never know your voice mail is ad-supported! There's no time limit that I could find. (if I'm wrong, please tell me!) It took them about 3 days to set things up, then I had to record my name for the greeting (sorry, no custom greetings), and it works GREAT! (When they first started this service, the call volume was too much for them, so some people had problems with getting their messages late, but that seems to be fixed now - we get all our messages within a few minutes of the call!) And yes, they have a referral program, but I'm not using it here because it's not allowed . . . |

I did this myself, but I choose the option where you can sign up as not having a phone, sounds silly, but I wanted to be able to chose who I wanted to have the 800 number to call, this way, not ALL calls are being answered. Today, I must say it was great to have. I got a call from my childrens school today to pick them up!!! It came through in just a couple of minutes of them hanging up. 2 of my kids are gone every other weekend and with me on the puter a lot, their father can never get through, I gave them this 800# and now all is fine. One more thing - if you chose the option of signing up without having a phone, explain THOROUGHLY to anyone who may be using it that your mailbox number is only 9 digits..(first 3 is your area coded, next 3 is your exchange and the last 3 is something they pull out of the air..lol). Many people emailed me or called me saying I had left out a number..so I went in, wrote up an email explaining why it was like that (my choice) and sent it out to everyone! I do think certain area may have trouble leaving a message, my hubby still hasn't been able to do it from work (you can't do it from a payphone either)...but maybe it's a "guy" thing! ![]() [This message has been edited by Mouse7088 (edited 08-25-2000).] |

Just FYI - if you go to Freeride.com, under the Point Works section, click on Dot-Com-n-Get-It and you can get 50 points for signing up with eVoice. (Wish I had seen this before I signed up with eVoice!)

Just bumping this one up - and want to point out that eVoice pays for the call forwarding service from your phone company - unlike some other "free" voice mail services, this service costs you absolutely nothing. Also, if you run an ad blocker program (I use Norton Internet Security 2000, but there are several freeware programs available), when you go to the web site to retrieve your messages, the banner ad won't show up!

Hey sputjds.. I have a couple of questions to make sure I am understanding this service okay. You can answer them here or email me at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or
Register Now] Also in your email give me your referral name. 1) When people call you and you are online, instead of getting a constant ringing (have call waiting) they will be forwarded on to this service? 2) you can check who called while you are online through the website or your email? 3) What about when you are not online, just not at home...will it go to answer machine I already have or all calls go to this service? Thanks. I am really needing something like this. [This message has been edited by me_77504 (edited 09-07-2000).] |

I've had this a few weeks and love it. Voice mail was not available in my area from the phone company so this is a wonderful option. If your line is busy, the call immediately goes to voice mail. Yes, you can check calls through their web site - they send an email message to let you know each time there is a new message. You can also call their 800 number to retrieve messages - a good option when you aren't at home. I told a friend about the service but when he tried to sign up it said it wasn't available in his area yet but to check back. I hope everyone else has as good an experience as I have with eVoice! |

Does anyone have a promotional code - that I could use for signing up for evoice, or any other rewards programs besides freeride, that would give me points for getting evoice? ------------------ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |

Answers: 1 - That is correct - this service works just like the voice mail you would get from the phone company - if your line is busy callers will be forwarded to evoice to leave a message. 2 - When you get a message, evoice will send you a notification via email and you can retrieve the messages on their web site. OR you can go to the web site while you're surfing and see if there are any messages. OR they can send the entire message to your email address (as a RealAudio attachment). OR you can check and listen to your messages via an 800 number (you have to listen to one 15-second ad if you do this). 3 - eVoice answers on the fifth ring. My answering machine is set to answer on the fourth ring, so if I'm just not home (or more likely I'm screening calls!) the answering machine will pick up instead of using eVoice. And don't worry about my referral ID. I don't even know what you get for referring users. |
