While I can't give any specific info about the Ford deal, I can tell you all about booster seats. There is a difference in booster seatd and carseats. Most carseats are designed for kids up to 40 lbs or 4 yrs. old. Booster seats are made for kids 40-80 lbs which is around eight years old. The AAP recommends that ALL kids that are too big for carseats, but too small for regular seatbelts (kids that are under 80 lbs or 8 yrs old), use a booster seat. There are only three states that have made booster seats mandiatory, however more are looking into it. Even if you don't qualify for the free boosters, I would urge ANY parent that has a child under 8 or 80 lbs to use a booster seat. Regular seat belts are not made for kids, and, in the event of a crash, it will most likely end up harming your child instead of helping.

Just a bit of info on this one... Free Booster Seat Program From Ford - The Ford Motor Company Fund, United Way will distribute 500,000 booster seats through its participating United Way agencies to prescreened families who meet the agency's low-income criteria |

I just have to echo doglover - all children under 80 lbs and below 4'9" should be in a booster seat. (Up to 8 years old approx). My cousin's 4 year old's brain was bruised during a car accident because she just had a lap belt on in the back set. These are made for 170 pound men - not children. Ford Motor Company has been trying to pass a booster seat law - unsucessfully. You can call your local Ford dealer for the info. Some are more lenient about the restrictions. |
