| ElCheapo ~ I don't fly very often but am interested in your post. How does it work? Is it easy to get miles? Easy to redeem them? Thanks. ------------------ Feel free to e-mail me with questions or problems: [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Hi I would say, start with the major airline in your city. If I were lucky enough to be in an airline's hub city, I would go with that airline. Sometimes the fares may be a couple of dollars more than another carrier, but if you don't fly often, then you'll have just a few miles spread out over all the airlines and won't be able to do anything with the miles. Hub cities are eg, Denver, Chicago, Washington DC - United; Dallas - American; Atlanta, Cincinnati - Delta, Phoenix - America West; St Louis - TWA; Pittsburgh- USAir. Then every time you fly you give them the number and miles accrue to your account. You can get special bonus miles, such as I've posted. Sometimes the airlines run double miles on a select route for a select period of time. They say that miles don't expire anymore, but I think that if the account is inactive for 3 years or something like that, then they might disappear. Not an issue for me, so I can't remember the details. But if you truly fly that infrequently, then that's all the reason to get them all on one carrier. As for redeeming miles, that's something to consider when *earning* miles. For example, if you think you might want to use the miles to go to Paris... earning them on Southwest or TWA doesn't do you any good! (They have no international routes (to speak of) or partners). I use United almost exclusively. While sometimes the fares are a little higher, I get the miles all going to one account, and get enough miles annually to get in the Premier group, and sometimes get free upgrades to First class. I wouldn't get those if I spread my business around everywhere. Plus, IMO, they have the broadest range of routes to use when redeeming my miles, and flights going every few hours vs once a day like some others (which limits the availability of seats using miles). Your question was open ended, so I wasn't sure exactly what you wanted to know. Are those the kinds of questions you wanted answered? If not, keep 'em coming! Oh yeah, most domestic ticket (lower 4 awards 'cost' 20,000 to 30,000 miles - depending on if they are running a deal. But I'm going to Hawaii for a week later this month, in First Class (it's a lonnnnnngggggg flight) using miles... so it can work ![]() [This message has been edited by ElCheapo (edited 06-12-2000).] |

| Monapoe, I've been doing Click Miles for a few months. I've gotten 2,000 or so miles through them. At least for me it doesn't add up too fast, but every bit helps. I also got a Northwest Airlines Visa card and get miles for every purchase I make on it. ------------------ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |

| Nice link, netwrx. I guess it was late when I posted my first reply.. I use Clickrewards too, and have been building miles there, but haven't redeemed any, so can't speak for how smoothly it works. Greenpoints also lets you convert points to miles. Also, you can open an account at E*Trade and get miles - maybe some other brokers too. And if you refer people you get miles for that. Delta has the Amex card deal - I think someone mentioned that. That's all I can think of at the moment. |
