Please don't forget about ReUseIt. Freecycle is a corporation minded now and ReUseIt is very much grassroots. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |

It is a WONDERFUL program. I have been bothered by the offering of animals, though....I find that sad. However, I love the concept of keeping things out of the landfills and helping others to accquire what they need without spending.

I found this site to be very useful for getting rid of unwanted stuff. Welcome! The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,554 groups with 5,526,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box or by clicking on “Browse Groups” above the search box. Have fun! [Only registered and activated users can see links. THANK YOU for writing this. Deron is horrible... it not grassroots anymore. I 'owned' our local Freecycle group and was a an IMOD (someone who went in to help out new groups). Deron demoted many of the Imods and that was the reason I moved my group to [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] What is ReUseIt? The ReUseIt Network is an on-line forum that serves as a tool to make connections between community members who want to help each other, themselves, and their environment. In a disposable society where many items are discarded long before they have actually outlived their use, The ReUseIt Network helps get things from people who have them but don't want them to people who want them but don't have them. Our goal is to find new uses for unwanted items that would otherwise be thrown into the trash. The primary benefit is that it reduces the amount of reusable items that end up in the trash with a secondary benefit of reducing the overall amount of items thrown into landfills. Reusing items not only cuts down on goods in landfills, but also helps reduce the strain on our natural resources by keeping useable items in circulation, reducing the need to manufacture additional goods. The ReUseIt Network also provides an opportunity for those looking for an item to ask for it. Requests for items may jog the memory of someone who has an unused item stashed in the garage or basement waiting to be used. It is a great way to help get rid of those things which we may have forgotten, giving every member the chance to ReUseIt! All transactions must be free, legal, and family-friendly. How Does ReUseIt Work? Find and join your local group to start reducing clutter in your space and helping someone else acquire what they are looking for! Simply list the item that you wish to give away and wait for someone to respond saying that he or she is interested in taking the item. Some people like to wait 24 hours before selecting the person to whom the item will be given. Others simply go with the first person who answers. How you choose is up to you. Items don't have to be in pristine condition, and in some cases can be non-working. Some people like to tinker with the odd appliance, refinish furniture, or need a part to make something work. You may have just what they are looking for! This is a great opportunity to offer or ask for things that may be out of date, out of style, or out of circulation. We do ask that you be honest and up-front about the condition of all items offered. How Do I Get Started? Simply find a local group in your area and join. If there isn't a local group in your area, feel free to contact us and we can help you establish one. It's easy to do and there are a lot of experienced moderators here to help you start a group in your area or get your current one linked to The ReUseIt Network. ReUseIt is much better than Freecycle EVER could be. It's not with a budget or board members or some yahoo on a power trip ruining things. I would wholeheartedly tell anyone to go to ReUseIt rather than Freecycle |

| Re: FREECYCLE get furniture and things for free in your area
I love FreeCycle! My next door neighbor is moving soon and dropped two bicycles by the dumpster. Of course the garbage man wouldn't pick them up to haul them away so I list them on Freecycle. Within a few hours they were picked up by a very nice gentleman who repairs bikes for men at his chuch who need them. Couldn't have went to a better cause.

| Re: FREECYCLE get furniture and things for free in your area
If you live in a rural area, ReUseIt might not be available. I live in Nebraska and use freecycle. Even though I don't like some of the politics, mostly they don't bother the average user. I am happy to participate in both freecycle and Reuseit. Anything that helps families make ends meet and keep things out of the landfills is good to me!
