Re: free optical mouse

Thanks, these are just the type of mice I was raving about under the free mousepad post, since they don't have a moving wheel on the bottom you don't need a mouse pad for them.

Sometimes it is still good to use a mousepad for these types of mice. For example, if you use a rough surface as a desk (the grooves in unfinished wood, for example, can through the mice off), or if you use a delicate surface as a desk (the mouse might not care, but the desk might!).

Re: free optical mouse

Good post. I 'graduated' to an optical Logitech Trackball Marble Mouse. No pad needed and you can put it on any surface and it doesn't move. You move the large marble. I am in love with it, but it took me several days to get accustomed to using it. No maintenance, no cleaning. They're very inexpensive too.

Re: free optical mouse

Actually Toby, sometimes you still do have to pop that big ball out and clean the connectors inside or it will start acting up and moving funny. Just normal usage makes the ball collect oils and such from your hands and it builds up inside. So you don't have to clean it as often as regular mice with the ball on the bottom, but you do have to clean them every few months. If you look at it, it should have a spot on the bottom where you can press to pop the ball out to clean it and the connectors.

I loved the one we had because the track ball was bright blue, just like you called it, looked like a large blue marble, a very pretty color. Even though we quit using it, I still refused to get rid of it. LOL!

Re: free optical mouse

Oh and Mad, I just have a plain old computer desk, smooth finished particle board. So no need for a mouse at all here.

Oh and Toby, just in case you ever need to clean it, I hunted up some links for you:

Just in case yours didn't come with instructions or info on it.

Even with the laser and wireless mice, you still have to clean them once in awhile, by wiping any dirt or oils off the laser eyes that could interfere with mouse operation or communication between the mouse and the wireless base. Same things happens with our wireless Playstation controllers, you gots to clean the beam lights once in awhile.

Re: free optical mouse

Here is what I have. All you do is pull on the marble once a month maybe if you like and wipe it clean. That's it. They work like a charm. It doesn't have anything on the bottom. I never cleaned mine yet. Had it for several months.
