| Re: Please Read: When Posting a Freebie!
Ok my problem is that when I click on the search button to search the forum nothing happens. I even tried the one up top beside the usercp like you told me to and it does not work either. But if I just want to search one post then it will let me search a thread the box pops down for me to enter what I want to search within that thread only. I keep trying search forum to see if it will work. Ok I see what your talking about the advance search though so I will try using that when I am going to make a post I understand what you mean by double post though it does cost alot of clutter.

Maybe this will make it easier for you, here's the direct link that you are directed to, when you click the Advanced Search option: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] So you can bookmark that page if that makes it easier, then no issues with clicking the link and not having it work. On that page, you will see that you can search by topic, username, date, and etc., you can even select which forum to search, so if you are checking for a dupe freebie post, you can just select the freebie forum to search, which makes it a lot faster than searching all forums on the site, which is what the basic search does anyway. For users with dial-up, that makes it a lot smoother of a search process. Let me know if that link works for you and helps any! |

I am also going to make a seperate sticky post with that link in it, I imagine if one person is having issues using the search feature, then others probably are as well, so it might help other members, too. Oh, I meant to ask, do you have a pop-up blocker enabled on your computer? If you do, then that could be one reason you can't access the search page, I know that I use the Maxthon browser and it reads the search links as pop-ups, so I have to click twice to open them, because it blocks pop-ups for me. The basic search feature, if you are clicking on that, is just a little pop-up box that opens when you click on the word search, then you click in the box and type what you are searching for, so if your browser reads that as a pop-up and you have a blocker on, that could be causing the problem as well. |

| For those having problems with the search feature!
skyangel was just discussing having problems getting the search links to work, I am assuming that if one member has a problem with it, then it probably happens, at least sometimes, to other members as well. The way it should work, when you click on the word search at the top of the page, in the row of options that starts with USERCP, FAQ and etc. is a small box should pop open and you can then click in the box, type what you are searching for, then click GO to start your search. Alternatively you can click the link underneath the box that says Advanced Search in blue letters. However, since the search box itself is a small pop-up box, some browsers may block it because they read it just like they would an advertisement pop up. Another issue is that some computers allow you to get that far, but when you click the GO button, nothing happens, because it reads the search results page, which tries to open a page of results, as being a pop-up, so it blocks that activity as well. Now, I cannot change the way the site software works, I have no control over that, but I can provide everyone with an alternative solution, the link I am posting below, will take you directly to the Advanced Search page: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] For those of you on dial-up or with slow connections, this is actually a much easier and faster search to use, because rather than searching the entire site as the basic search does, you can click the specific forum you wish to search, you will see that box on the lower right of the search page. So rather than searching, literally, hundreds of thousands of posts, you can restrict your search to ONE single forum, such as Found a Freebie, the list even includes the sub-forums such as baby and business freebies as well. You will see various other options that you can customize as well, such as searching for posts by a specific user, customizing the dates; for instance, no need to check for duplicate freebies all the way back to the sites inception in 1999, you can just search from say last year, until now. You can also customize how it lists them, ascending or descending, so you can make sure the most recent posts, or older ones are listed first, according to which you prefer. You also have the option to view your results as individual posts, or a listing of the relevant threads. If you are logged in, at the time of your search, you can even select the option underneath the search box at the bottom to have the site save your search preferences for you. Most times, I just use a quick search by typing in what I am looking for, selecting the forum to search, leaving all the other stuff at the default options, then clicking the Search Now radio button. So, I am hoping this info will make it a little easier for some of you, because I know that no one who uses a pop-up or ad-blocker, wants to have to turn it off to use the site. So just bookmark this link, or click on this post, which will remain sticky at the top of the forum, and click the link here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] Have a fantastic day everyone! |

Yes, I love Maxthon, and I don't have any problems with the search functions with it, either. Even if you turn off pop-ups in Maxthon, you can allow one, just by clicking the link twice, at least in the version I have. Mine is fairly recent, since we had to replace our computer, the old one entirely died and I couldn't recover anything from it, not even our family pics, so I am going to have to see if I can get someone that can put the harddrive in for us so I can get my pics off of it and put them on CD. Anyway, mine is version 1.5.1 build 39, Unicode. Since downloading it, and the way it blocks the ads so all these pages run faster, I will never use a different browser again! |

I started using MyIE probably the first week it launched. They have a wonderful message board forum also. My colleague was beta testing new versions... not sure if he's still doing that. I used a very old version of Maxthon for a long time and then upgraded to the one I have now end of Dec, 2005. I LOVE IT! I still don't understand what the big thrill is w/Firefox! lol Everything loads very fast, especially with VDSL line.

I tried Firefox, before I discovered Maxthon, and I didn't like it at all. It let way too many pop-ups and ads through, plus it interfered with my firewall, and I got a virus while using it, when I ran the checks to get rid of it and find out why, I found out it was leaving too many spots vulnerable, so I deleted it and went in hunt of a different one. I found Maxthon, and have been using it for almost a year now. I have a straight cable modem hooked up to our computer and Maxthon is very, very fast. Andy still uses IE and it works and loads way slower than Maxthon, if he is using it and calls me in here to look at something, it drives me crazy waiting for it to open a page. I also noticed, that when I add something to favorites in Max, it is saved to all favorites, so he can also access it from the list when uses IE, but if he saves it in IE, it doesn't add it to Max, so I have to go open IE and copy the URL, then save it here. |
