Anybody out there have IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome)???

From the research I have done - I believe I have this. It could be due to the number of medications I take too. What's funny though is the last time I was sick for awhile and had to take some large doses of steroids - things seemed to clear up. Now I'm back to the problems.

A friend of mine told me his mother was diagnosed a long time ago and told to take fiber supplements and it's helped her out for many a years. I've decided to give it a shot to see if it can help me - last thing I want to do is get on more prescription meds for something else wrong.

Just wondering if anybody else has the problem and has had success with more natural approaches.

I have IBS and yer right about the steroids. When I had Pneumonia they put me on Steroids and I didn't have any problem then, now that i'm healthy again IBS is back!
And if I have anything stressful going on in my life it's even worse!
I have had no success with any remedies at all. I have just learned to revolve my life around IBS.

well Teah - I guess something in the steroids helps things out - shoot. I sure as heck don't want to take those on a constant basis - i take other drugs for my asthma but I don't have to take prednisone for it unless I get really ill. I also noticed that when I get stressed out (which is alot lately) it REALLY flares up - sounds like it's the same thing. I'm hoping these fiber pills will work.

I don't have IBS...I have an IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). Crohn's Disease, to be exact.

I'm sure it was the steroids that helped your symptoms. Prednisone is commonly used to treat IBDs. If you haven't had any testing done (colonoscopy, barium enema, upper GI, etc.) then you might want to consider it just to be sure it's only IBS and not an IBD. IBS doesn't cause any physical damage, it just manifests symptoms (and they're just as painful!). IBD, however, can cause some serious probs if left untreated.
