New Gym Membership... its a start!

Right guys i'm 21, Ive been travelling for a couple of years and enjoyed myself a bit to much, so put on a bit of weight. Its more the moobs that get me, the belly is bareable, but my chest just seems to stick out not in a pectoral way!

So I now have plans of getting on a treadmill for 30mins a day, Will this do anything for me with a steady diet? Then after the fat is lost i have huge ambitions to really work on my upper body and have pecks which are solid and defined. Thats the main priority.

Also is it worth doing sit ups if you have a bit of a belly on you?

So guys.... Hit me with your fountain of knowledge

Thanks

Hi Brook,

Beside being a Therapeutic massage specialist, also worked as a personal trainer. Hopefully I can share my fountain of knowledge with you! The reason why people can't lose weight no matter how much they diet or run the treadmill and work out is because they're consuming too much carbs and more calorie intake per day.

It's not what you eat but how much you eat of that product! (Eat in moderation) Stay away from bread and pasta, If you like bread, my advise is peel the bread dough in the bread off!

Calorie intake per day should be 1400 to 1500....Anything more you won't lose any weight and make sure the carb intake per day is less than 100 carbs. Shoot for around 75 carbs a day and the weight will fall right off.

Be aware of the food labels as hard as that might be, Drink plenty of water which flushes your system out. You'll be working out at the gym and dieting for nothing if you do not maintain the proper calorie and carb intake daily. That's why people can't lose weight no matter how had they try!

As far as the sit ups, yes you can still do sit ups. my advise is to do crunches standing up, do crunches to both sides and right in the middle. It works better than the basic sit ups.

Good luck and hope everything works out for ya!

Re: New Gym Membership... its a start!

I learned these great tips from my brother who has a major isn exercise physiology--The best way to loose weitght is to figure out your maxium heart rate, and then maintain 50-60% of that while your working out. Here is how you do that:
(from Runners World)
If you are new to running, or only want an approximation of your maximum heart ate, you can use the formula of 214 - (0.8 x age) for men and 209 - (0.9 x age) for women.

Unfortunately for 5-10 per cent of the population, this figure can be wrong by up to 24 beats per minute. A better way to find your max is to do a running test.

Run evenly as fast as you can for three minutes (ideally on a treadmill), resting with two or three minutes gentle running, then repeating the fast three minutes. During your second run you should get a higher maximum reading than with any other method – although you or a helper should use a heart rate monitor to take readings throughout the interval, because your pulse may peak before the finish.

Also in order to start burning fat you need to exercise at this rate for longer then 30 min. It takes 30 min before you body starts to accept the change and process that your going through.
Eat something with protein and fiber in the morning, to make you feel full and keep you full longer. Also eating your meals backwards is helpful, eat more for breakfast, less at lunch and then signifigantly less for dinner, It takes 2 hours before your body starts to digest the food you eat, so in the day your burning more then you do at night. This is especially so if you are a late eater and are not very active at night. If you eat a big meal at 7 or 8 sit around and watch tv and then go to bed @ 10 your barely giving your body the chance to work off those calories that you have just eaten--so make it lighter at dinner time for sure oh and drink lots of water....

Ps...I'm looking for a weight loss buddy if your interested!
