cold remedies?

Hey all. Wondering if anyone has used any of these all-natural supplements that boost your immune system so you avoid getting a cold? I was really worried I was gonna get a cold before I went on vaca last weekend and one of my coworkers bought me a bottle of cold-fx! Anyone ever tried it?

Cold fix? No, what's in it? We use echinacea elder and the plus teas, as well as sage tea and also one called Gypsy Cold Care that seem to work quickly if you're getting a cold.

I haven't tried that.

We use one of more of these:

Echinacea Angustifolia (this is the strong stuff)
Airborne
Zicam chewable (hate the taste, though, because of the zinc)

We have to rotate because if we just use one, it seems to not work for us very well after a while.

Ahh, thanks for the suggestions, Yorkie! I'm such a baby when it comes to getting sick and taking medicine - when I was little my mom used to have to force cough syrup down my throat! hehe.

I don't like having to drink things and I don't like things that taste bad...(I told you, I'm a baby! )...Cold-fx is a pill which is about the only thing I can handle

Well, that really makes it hard for you, then.

The Echinacea Angustifolia should be taken at the first sign of a cold, and is available at health food stores in liquid form (yuk) and in capsules, which is what we do. Take one morning and night until you're feeling better. (Some people take these every day, but that's not recommended because your body gets used to that level.)

The Airborne is a fizzy drink, but I think it's pleasant tasting. Same thing, take at the first sign of a cold, and every three hours thereafter until you're feeling better.

I hope someone else has a rec for you, and/or that the Cold FX works.

Yes, Yorkie...I am SO stubborn...Hehe...The liquid-form-stuff for me is a complete nono...yuk is right!!

I'm sticking to my guns on this one (stubborn -- see?!?)...I actually was fine and never got sick, which is a miracle, since everyone staying in the house that I stayed at was awfully ill. Has anyone else ever tried the cold-fx stuff? I've done lots of research and it sounds like a good match for me....now that I have a bottle in my drawer at work, wondering if anyone has actually used it?

I forgot to mention that I take one or two Astralagus capsules every day, too, because I heard it boosts your immune system. Cheap insurance, and it seems to work well for me.

Both the echinacea and astralgus also come in herbal tea form, so if you like tea, especially with honey, those will help you as well. Rose hips tea is basically Vitamin C in tea form, which is good as a hot tea and also good for you. Whenever you're going to take the pill forms, make sure it says "standardized" on the bottle.

In the wintertime I use Airborne!! My kids think I am crazy, because I make them take it so much, but it seems to help.

LOL! I can't! I'm allergic to the hot spices, but it's a great idea for those who aren't!

It's not medicine but it works for me. Try drinking some oolong tea. Builds up your immune system and stops illness from even coming. Loose leaf tea is best but bagged tea works great, too!
