I couldn't get the TOOCOOL6 code to work for another 10% off though as it says it has expired? I thought it was good until 7-15 however :(

| Bingobabe, the safety stats are good as far as it meets the US requirements for safety seats, but most car seats experts would steer you away from it. I believe this is an overhead shield seat, which has been known to cause injuries to children and even a death to a 3 year old. This was due to the shield breaking off and hitting her in the head. She had no other injuries. People are fighting to get these seats off the market and although the safety experts are not allowed to say bad things about the seats, they tend to steer people to the 5 pt. harnesses with the fact that these fit childrens bodies better. I myself called Evenflo about their overhead shields and why they sell them and the CSR told me "People have a false sense of security that the shield will protect their children better, and they buy them, so we make them." In reality though, these seats are nothing but a hard piece of plastic with cloth around it. In an accident it could be just like having your car dashboard right in front of you. These shields provide no additional safety to your child. I'm not trying to spoil your deal, I just want to get the information out to people, so we can get these seats off the market. There is a great board on parents place that deals with carseats and they have some wonderful carseat technicians that can answer anyones questions. They also have linked at the top of their page buying guides and a compatability database, which shows what seats fit in what cars. Hope it is okay to put the link here: http://boards2.parentsplace.com/cgi-bin/boards/carseats Angel - Mom to Nathan (3) and Joshua (9 mths) who are both in 5 pt. harnesses. :) |

| I ordered a car seat and so did my boss. I emailed Target.com's customer service to tell them that the order form would not accept the promotion code. They are going to credit me the 10% on both orders!!! Thanks for the great post.:) |

| hawkins--when did you order one??? Also my twins are in Evenflo Horizon Car seats now..they are 5 point harness but they do not seem very comfy for them. These car seats were bought at estyle for over $90 each, I guess the more expensive is not always the best. Even their infant seats were 5 point harness, I don't think they are more safe just more inconvient.

| I would like to ask all of you parents with children in car seats a question. I take care of a toddler, and his parents and I have both noticed a little round bruise on his back (spine) that comes and goes. It dawned on me- something he sits in off and on, or sits in different positions to where the bruise sometimes is caused or not. Its not in a place where he can bump from the way he carries himself. When he does fall, he usually goes forward or sideways, certainly not falling backward onto a bumpy wall, hitting the same spot each time. The bruise is always in the the same area. We eliminated the high chair, and found ourselves looking at the car seats. We found an area on all the seats where his bruise would be coming from, an indented plastic area, and the foam padding is too light to protect this little guy. The bruise just started showing up since the weather has been so nice... makes sense with not wearing a coat and sweater in the car. My question to all of you is, have you ever noticed a bruise on your childs spine, just a little round bruise from sitting in the car seat? I cant remember any of my children getting bruised from the car seats, nor any I ever have taken care of. Have car seats become so cheap that the padding has become so poor? Please, feel your car seats firmly, where the small of the back would set against. We have 4 car seats between us, and they all have this thin padding over the plastic seat. Please check the indents and holes of the plastic. The way a child sits in them the plastic slope is very hard against the little ones backs. I am very curious if anyone else has noticed this problem. Thanks! |

First of all, heavy coats or sweaters should not be worn when your child is in the carseat, it can cause problems with the harness staying tight, in an accident, the coat could compress, causing the harness to be loose, and possibly ejecting the child from the seat. Use a lightweight jacket, or take the jacket off once you're in the car. To your second question, your right, most US seats aren't well padded(most of them anyway) They pass the crash tests, but don't have the extra padding like the Fisher Price Safe Embrace(now discontinued) or the Britax seats. Both of those seats have EPS foam around the child, which help in the comfort factor, and possibly the safety factor. And whoever paid $90 for the 5pt Evenflo Horizons got majorly ripped off, they sell for $70 in most B &M stores, and the less expensive version, the Conquest, can be found for $50. 5pt seats have PROVEN to be a safer option, and the Europeans will NOT allow shield seats to be sold in their countries, they fail their crash tests(which include side impact, roll-vers, etc, the US crash tests only on a crash sled, moving forward) Here are some links for everyone on carseats... http://www.safekids.org http://www.aap.org/family/famshop.htm#CList http://rainforest.parentsplace.com/dialog/get/carseats3/11.html http://matlock.metatechnics.com/CPSafety/Fivepoint_vs_overhead.htm http://boards2.parentsplace.com/messages/get/ppcarseats166/26/2.html And if you are unsure if your carseat is being used correctly, go here http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/Contacts/index.cfm to find a certified CPS technician in your area. And remember that carseat isn't a good deal if it doesn't keep your baby safe! |

| I'm the one who bought the $90 car seats !! LOL If you have ever looked at estyle.com you would see why I paid $90...they are an upscale online store who basically rip people off !! I used a coupon so it was cheaper but last year in March 2000 they did retail for $89.99.. of course they would be cheaper this year. I haven't noticed any bruises on my twins, the padding is thick in the evenflo horizons though, especially on the sides and back. I ike the car seats just the 5 point harness is inconvient and they are now starting to pull at the chest clasp ( they are only 14 months old) I can only imagine what they will be doing at 2 years old...probably undoing it and getting themselves out !!! They maybe safer but if they are easier to undo and looosen I'd rather be unsafe in a car seat they can't play with and loosen the straps. Also, I have NEVER heard of taking a childs jacket off in the car seat...you just pull the straps tighter. It should hurt them because of the padding in the jacket. Of course for a long trip we would stop after a half our or so and get everyone comfortable for the long ride. I guess this just goes to show that every parent is different when it comes to the safety and comfort of their child.

| I have two little girls and have NEVER seen any bruises on their spine! They both started off in a Graco Carrier/Car Seat and then went to a Century Car Seat (20-40 lbs.). My yougest is still in this and we have never had a problem. When my youngest "graduated" to this one when she hit the 1 and 20 mark, we got our older daugher (then about 2-1/2 yrs old) a Century Booster that goes to 85 lbs. It is the tall seat kind. We have not had any problems with any of these seats or any bruises resulting from them....... Maybe they want to try using a different car seat and see if the bruise goes away and doesn't return..... |
