Cool Hedgehog advice?

I've decided to adopt a pet hedgehog, and I need some help finding good breeders in my area. Does anyone know of hedgehog breeders in the Ohio area? Any help would be appreciated.

My friends had hedgehogs (2) and then they had baby hedgehodhes (4) and then the daddy hedgehodge ate the mommy and babies... so, don't let them breed.. and if you do, keep the male away later. Sorry this is graphic, its just that my friend's irresponisbility in caring for those poor creatures upsets me!!!

Also, and this is unsolicted advice I know, they are very boring (they sleep and not much else) They are very shy. And they aren't much good for cuddling.
:(
A word to the wise.

Now, if you do decide to go ahead and get them, forget I stuck my nose in and enjoy your new pets! :)

Good luck to you!

Marie

I've actually raised hedgehogs before. They only eat their babies if they are disturbed just before or after they give birth, and they are solitary creatures so it's important to always keep adults apart. They're actually quite friendly if you get them when they're young and get to know them. They do sleep alot in the day, but I'm a night owl, so that's ok. They are sooooo cute, i'll post pics once I find one. Thanks for the warnings though.

Good luck with your future hedgehog! My hedgie will be 4 yrs. old on 4/15 and he's one of the best pets I ever got! The secret to raising a great hedgie is to get them when they're very young, like between 6 - 8 weeks old. Also you must handle them alot. Yes they do sleep all day, but they can be trained to wake up early, mine gets up at 7:00pm, I feed him his favorite foods (cottage cheese, dry cat food, and meal worms) and then I let him out of his cage to run in a small kids plastic wading pool. He loves to play with cloth napkins. Again...good luck with your future pet!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm still trying to find a breeder in my area, looks like the closest is 3-4 hours away. I had my hedgies when I was quite young, so my parents took care of the vet stuff, have you had many health problems with yours?

Although hedgehogs are wonderful animals smhop1 has a point in here.
Hedgehogs are more suitable to the wild, where they hunt during the night and sleep during the day.

Why do you prefer an hedgehog over an hamster? Dogs and cats are also very fun and you might find very cute animals on an animal sanctuary nearby your house.
