| hey all you target shoppers - have you seen the new return policy??? can't return ANYTHING if you have no receipt. that means if my mother-in-law goes in to buy hannah a wrong sized outfit (as she is wont to do), and doesn't give me the receipt, i am stuck w/ it. christmas gifts that don't work - stuck w/ them (which i hate as giver and receiver). something falls apart - stuck w/ it. they can look up purchases now that you charged, but if you didn't charge or didn't buy yourself, you are s.o.l. the csr told me to log on to www.target.com to complain. (go to "contact us".) if enough people do, they'll think about changing back. PUT IN YOUR TWO CENTS! PLLEEEASE!!! paula.

| Where and when did you hear/read this? Target has been one of my favorite stores since returns have been SO easy, even if we didn't have the bill! I'd hate to see them change their policy. Wonder if they got burned too many times by dishonest customers? |

| sandyl, they have a new brochure at the store. i called to complain (888-304-4000) (and logged on to do the same under my husband's account). the guy was fairly snotty, and said he'd record my comments, but that i should expect every retailer to go to the same policy befor the end of a year. fat chance. i, for one, will revolt!! boy, talk about zero customer service. (since you have to have a receipt now to even exchange for a different size, they're not even going to let you do that!) EVERYBODY PLEASE COMPLAIN!!! |

| I do not have a Target in my area - only Wal-Mart. I have been reading about this though on MC for about a month now. I read there that they also will only give the lowest sale or clearance price at the time you make the return - even with the receipt showing that you paid more. This is really crazy. Do you think they are losing so much money to theft that this won't cost them more? I can't see how they think this is ok and that all retailers are going to this policy. I sure hope not. I thought I missed Target, but at least Wal-Mart hasn't done this!!! |

| I just emailed them: I have been a loyal Target customer for many years, spending an average of $150 to $200 a month in your stores. Recently, I have heard that you have instituted a very un-customer friendly return policy. I have heard that no longer will you except returns, even for exchanges, without a receipt. This will really impact where I will shop for Christmas gifts this year. I refuse to buy someone a gift that they cannot return. I would most certainly not hand the recipient my credit card receipt for the purchase. Even if I was willing to do that, I would then have to make the cashier ring up each gift I buy as a separate transaction so I would have a separate receipt to hand each family member. I don't think so... I also have heard that if I buy something, return it the next week and meanwhile the item goes on clearance, I will only be refunded the clearance price. I guess if I continue to patronize Target, I will have to start using my MasterCard so I can dispute the charges for items you refuse to refund. Walmart is starting to sound better and better to me. I am sorely disappointed and feel like I'm losing a good friend. Good-bye Target. |

| Ms
I do not have a Target in my area - only Wal-Mart. I have been reading about this though on MC for about a month now. I read there that they also will only give the lowest sale or clearance price at the time you make the return - even with the receipt showing that you paid more.
Now, that HAS to be against the law. If you have your receipt, with the price you paid in plain black and white, how can they give you less $$ than what you paid??? I could see that if you had no receipt, but come on......
I already had it out last fall with a manager at Target and I also tried to deal with them thru Planet Feedback. Neither would back down. I had a video that I wanted to return, still sealed, and trade in. No cash requested, just a trade in. No way. They refused. Not only that, but when I told the manager that I had been in line and seen a woman the previous day return TWO movies for CASH, he called me a LIAR. Boy, I let him have it. Finally, I told him that I knew it had been done for someone else because...it was my MOTHER. He still said there was no way that someone gave my mother cash for two videos without a receipt. I was so angry.
Miriama, I have returned a video. It wasn't even wrapped, but the movie was defective and I didn't have the receipt because it was a gift. All I wanted was an exchange. They wouldn't do it w/o a receipt. But ya know what I did....I went and bought the same movie. Then, I had the receipt needed and walked my butt up to the return counter and returned the defective movie. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr:{

| I think that really stinks for us honest shoppers.....but I can sort of see the retailers point now.......there was a lady who took her kids OLD, USED school clothes in, and demanded a full refund.....I mean jeans that were WORN big-time......Imagine the other shoppers outrage, mine included, when she whipped out her receipt and tags, and demanded her cash, which like idiots, the store refunded......and she went off to buy new clothes.... I was outraged.....esp. when the customer service lady said some there is gonna be a policy change soon, as some people are getting really, really bad......there was also a lady who buys items regular price, then MONTHS later (many months!!!) when the items go on clearance or whatever, she goes and gets the difference.... sorry, but I think that is wrong.....if someone wants a sweater in the winter, by gosh, pay the full price or sale price....and don't feel entitled to the difference in price when the sweater goes on clearance for a buck in the summer......it is those such who ruin it for the rest of us. Just my opinion.....I think the stores are cracking down on us decent people, since so many have raked them over too much.....not fair, but understandable to an extent.

| i've never done anything like that, and i'd bet those people are the exception to the rule. and i don't think it's fair to any extent. unless that lady claimed that the clothes were defective (hard to imagine. how many articles were there?), they shouldn't have taken them back.. to say that my wanting to exchange a brand new, "look right over there, they're on that rack" item is on the same planet as that kind of behavior just isn't true. and my target doesn't do price adjustments!! (doesn't penney's have some sort of policy that your kids can't wear their clothes out before they outgrow or penney's will replace?) i think target, which has been a major player in the retail market up til now, is going to get hit hard by this. i am seriously not shopping there anymore... |

| I was suprised as anyone about the new policies, but one was left out. If you pay by check, they reserve the right to refund you with a store credit! I know I will not be doing much shopping there. I know I don't save the receipt for household goods. What if I am allergic to a new scent in a laundry detergent? What if I buy a bunch of produce that taste like chemicals? (both have happened!) I don't want to be stuck with these items...In these situations, even the deep discount scratch and dent stores I sometimes shop would be easier to deal with than Target! |

| I think it is more than fair for a store to have a policy that they won't accept a clothing return unless all the tags are attached. I also think it's fair to put a 30 day time limit on making returns. But Target, IMO, has really gone over the line. Dealing with the occasional people who try to cheat the system is a part of doing business, if you ask me. But if they want to penalize me for what others are doing, then it's time for me to take my business elsewhere. I had thought that Target's Club Wedd and Lullabye Club (gift registries) were great things. But who wants to register for gifts and then find that you can't return duplicates without contacting your wedding guests to get their receipt? That, to me, is just beyond tacky to ask someone to give me the receipt for my gift. I am soooooo disappointed in Target. |

| Speaking as a person who works retail for a living...This policy really stinks. The last time I checked, the customer walking in the door pays my bills, puts food on my table, and it is my job to see she leaves the building happy. People who abuse return policies are OUTRAGEOUS these days, make no mistake about it. Soiled undergarmets, pools from the previous summer, used clothes, are all common place every single day. Every disgusting thing you can think of, people will do. However, why make the honest customer suffer ?? Returns should be strict...but this is way outta line.

| Just to let you know, I let them have it! I also told them of the time that I had taped my receipt to my item to be returned and the numbers dissapeared where the scotch tape was. They would only process my return as "returned without a receipt" (store credit). THEN they would not give me the price I paid even though that part was still plainly visible on the receipt. GRRRR I would rather shop at Kmart where you are overcharged for half your items at checkout! At least I KNOW I am going to be screwed over!! LOL |
