When you get a haircut

Well, I just got a haircut yesterday and while I was at the salon I was looking around the place and noticed that everybody has a lot of different habits at the salon when we are in that environment. It almost seems like a totally different world. So, I decided to come up with a list of question to view what goes on and how we act.

So, let's see how you act.

Do you call ahead and scheduled an appointment or do you just walk in and see if you can get in the same day?”

Well, when I want a haircut, I want it right then. But I go to Supercuts, which is a walk in salon, so really no problem there.

When you walk into the salon, is your hair styled in its usually way or is thrown back in ponytail?

I throw it into a ponytail the day of the cut, because there is no reason to style it if someone else is going to do it for you and better.

Do you put your hands under the cape or leave them outside of the cape?
After they put the cape on me, I keep them under, because I really hate when hair gets all over my arms and clothes. Anyways, they wouldn’t put a cape on you, if they wanted you to have hair all over your clothes.

Do you put your hands on the armrest or on your lap?

I do both, sometimes I switch from either position.

Do you place both feet on the footrest or cross your legs?

I always have my feet together on the footrest, because I heard if you cross your legs, it misses up your stylist and you can end up with a crooked haircut.

Are still when they cutting your hair or act fidgety, tapping your feet or hands, playing with something under the cape, switching your body position around, talking with your hands?

I sit very still, my legs together, arms on the armrest and back against the chair. I found it relaxing to not be moving around, it makes me enjoy the experience even more.

Have you ever left the salon with wet hair?

I try not to, but there are sometimes when I am running late for something or just didn't want to pay the extra money, when I can do it myself.

Have you ever taken your husband/boyfriend or the whole family for haircuts at the same time or is it all about ‘me’ time?

Almost every time that I go I take someone or the whole family goes. I get my haircut at a family salon, so it makes it really easy on all of us and we always have fun doing it together.

How long do you wait before you were taken to the chair?

I go to a Supercuts that everybody seems to love, so they are really busy almost everyday. Most time, I go on Saturday afternoon for cuts, but most times I end up waiting for forty-five minutes to an hour.

What does your stylist use scissors or a razor?

They use scissors, snip' snip, hair falls to the floor and I'm left with a nice clean line.

Have you ever had to stand during your haircut?

Never, but when I had really long hair, my stylist wanted me to stand, but I refused. I know I am really lazy.

What color/pattern cape does your stylist use and far does it reach on you?

Well, since it’s a chain salon, they all have the same style cape. It's a big black cape, with the words Supercuts printed in bright white on the chest of it. The cape drapes far over the sides of the chair and covers all the way down to my ankles, most times laying on top of my shoes.

Do you like the feeling of the cutting cape?

I love the cool, silky feeling of them over my neck, arms and over my clothes. Also, like when it moves and it makes the ‘whooshing’ sound!

Do close you eyes when they are cutting/or coloring your hair?

No, because I like to know what's going on at all times.

Do you like it when they pump up the chair?

I love when they rise and lower the chair, I don't know why, but I like it.

Do you watch when hair that has been cut falls on the cape and rolls down it?

Well, my stylist will pull up a section of hair, cut and out of no where a drizzle of little snippets will land on the cape and slowly slide down, so most time I watch them because I am taken by surprise when they fall.

Has your stylist ever done something that you didn’t want them to do

The only time something like that happened to me was when I getting my hair color and I wanted a sort of coffee brown and she died it to a sandy brown and when I asked her if it was suppose to look like that, she told me that it was much better than what I wanted.

Does your stylist blow dry or use a Duster to wipe off the hair that has fallen on your neck?

She uses a duster and blow dries it off.

Have you ever had to go to the bathroom during a haircut?

This happened to me once and it was a nightmare. At first, I did my best to hold it until she was done, but it got so bad that I had to tell her to stop and that I was deeply sorry that I had to go to the bathroom. So, to make matters worst, she had the chair pumped to the highest setting, so she had to let it down. Then, she had to take the cape off me, before I could run to the back of the salon with half my hair cut and soaking wet. Really embarrassing.

Have you ever got up and walked out of a haircut?

I haven't done this either, because for some reason even when I know that the haircut is bad, I let them finish it. I am such a wuss.

Have you cried in front of your hair stylist?

I don't get sad when they screw up my hair, I get mad.

How much hair is on the cape when they are finished cutting?

Most of the time there is quiet a bit of hair snippets that nest in my lap at the end of the cut. I get a lot cut off at one time, so usually there is a pile off hair the size of a small dog on the cape.

How long does it take to go through the whole salon process for you?
I only go in for a shampoo,a cut, and blowdry so it really only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get me done.

When you tip do you hand it to your stylist or to the receptionist?

I always hand it to the stylist, because I don't trust the receptionist to give it to the person taht cut my hair.

Interesting that this member posted this identical thing on another message board yesterday. They've got only 2 posts there as well.

Maybe they're some kind of a poll taker ?(

Re: When you get a haircut

Interesting post, you're so observant! Okay, here are my answers...

Do you call ahead and scheduled an appointment or do you just walk in and see if you can get in the same day?”

I make an appointment.

When you walk into the salon, is your hair styled in its usually way or is thrown back in ponytail?

Now I usually make sure it looks okay, otherwise my stylist makes fun of me, he always goes "Well, you're you, of course your hair is messy." Lol!

Do you put your hands under the cape or leave them outside of the cape?
Under

Do you put your hands on the armrest or on your lap?

Lap

Do you place both feet on the footrest or cross your legs?

Uncrossed because my therapist told me that it's bad for my back to cross my legs, so I try not to.

Are still when they cutting your hair or act fidgety, tapping your feet or hands, playing with something under the cape, switching your body position around, talking with your hands?

I stay still, otherwise I'd be scared the stylist would cut unevenly!

Have you ever left the salon with wet hair?

No

Have you ever taken your husband/boyfriend or the whole family for haircuts at the same time or is it all about ‘me’ time?

It's not "all about me" time, but I never have gone with anyone else to get my hair cut.

How long do you wait before you were taken to the chair?

Depends how late they're running.

What does your stylist use scissors or a razor?

Scissors

Have you ever had to stand during your haircut?

Yes, all the time, ugh!

What color/pattern cape does your stylist use and far does it reach on you?

I don't pay that much attention, I'm guessing it'ss black and goes down pretty far.

Do you like the feeling of the cutting cape?

Nooo

Do close you eyes when they are cutting/or coloring your hair?

No

Do you like it when they pump up the chair?

I'm impartial to it.

Do you watch when hair that has been cut falls on the cape and rolls down it?

No

Has your stylist ever done something that you didn’t want them to do

Yes, he's cut it too short at times.

Does your stylist blow dry or use a Duster to wipe off the hair that has fallen on your neck?

Blow dryer

Have you ever had to go to the bathroom during a haircut?

LOL! No.

Have you ever got up and walked out of a haircut?

No, I could never go out in public with my hair half cut and half not!

Have you cried in front of your hair stylist?

No

How much hair is on the cape when they are finished cutting?

Not much because I'm usually standing!

How long does it take to go through the whole salon process for you?
An hour maybe?

When you tip do you hand it to your stylist or to the receptionist?

No, there is a slot to put all your tips in.

You could be right... but I've posted the same thing on multiple boards just because I thought both boards would like it. :) And some people just like surveys, like on myspace there are always tons of surveys going around. Just sayin'...

Re: When you get a haircut

Could be either, maybe since the person is fairly new, they're just looking for something to post, kinda to get to know people? I've seen that lots of times....

I'm usually a walk-in. I get to the Barber's chair and say: "High and Tight, Really Tight, make the Sergeant Major happy!" :D :D

The one question I didn't see posted there was does your stylist/barber TALK the entire time they are cutting your hair?? Is there any out there that does not?:p

Re: When you get a haircut

You should always uncross your legs... it will usually end up uneven otherwise. And try to wear your hair down or the way you normally wear it. It will be redone, but it gives the stylist a better insight to how you style it and the texture and condition of your hair on a normal basis. :)

Re: When you get a haircut

Hubby trims my back at least twice a year, I do my bangs at least once a month, sometimes more often.
I pick one day and I go in a row with the boys. I do their hair then when they are done, its hubbys turn. I hate haircutting day, but it is better that I do it and it saves money and I forsure get the cut I want for them.:)
