Thumbs down overstock.com has never allowed anyone to cancell an order, why?

My wife ordered a TV cabinet from OVERSTOCK.COM but bought a square one by mistake, not a corner one. Less than 15 to 20 minutes later I called to cancel the square one and get a corner one. As soon as I said I wanted to cancel an order they said I couldn't do IF the order was already processed. I asked if it was processed and they said yes but didn't check anything. I asked when it was processed and the customer service rep didn't know. Afterall she didn't look anything up so how could she know when it was processed. She was just sure it was processed already and I had missed my window of oportun ity to cancel. I asked for a OVERSTOCK.COM supervisor. The OVERSTOCK.COM "supervisor" started telling me it was like a gate was open and horses were running out and they could not be stopped. I said that is a real interesting anology but when was my order processed and why are you telling me stories about horses that has nothing to do with cancelling an ordered in a computer system.

It seems OVERSTOCK.COM has no telephone or computer proceedure or any way in the world to contact their own warehouse to cancel an order 15 minutes after it was entered but they do have a way to charge you for restocking when they send theorder you don't want and tell them not to send it. Meanwhile back to the conversation with the so-called OVERSTOCK.COM "supervisor"...She said all orders are processed with in momments of clicking on the order button. I asked if an order has ever been cancelled. She said how could they be cancelled if they are "processed" instantly? So I asked why the web site just doesn't say that orders are proceessed immediately and can never be cancelled. She said it says "orders can be cancelled if they haven't been processed". Once again I asked how can it be cancelled if they are processed instantly. She said they can't. I asked why the web said implies that there is a period of time in which orders can be cancelled when in fact there isn't. No answer from the OVERSTOCK.COM ripoff "Supervisor" but she did mention the OVERSTOCK.COM ripoff restocking fee I was going to have to pay and she asked that I give them a call if I refuse the deleivery so they could refund what I paid minus the restocking fee within a few weeks.
IS THIS A FAIR BUSINESS PRACTICE?
I attest to the truth and accuracy of this statement and will gladly make myself available if anyone wishes to start a class action suite or just needs a witness to show unfair and misleading business practices on the part of the OVERSTOCK.COM ripoff system. Had I known they were in business to gouge customers stupid enough to think they are an honest Internet retailer. what a pleasure it is to do Internet business with companies like L L Bean or Kohl's or anyone of the other dozens of honest retailers that the ripoff company OVERSTOCK.COM is trying to ruin with OVERSTOCK.COM ripoff practices. I am sure many people have ordered multiple times from the ripoff OVERSTOCK.COM and to that I say you are lucky you never make a mistake or change your mind 15 minutes after ordering because whetever it is you ordered it will be shipped and if you return it you will pay re-stocking ripoff fees.

Re: overstock.com has never allowed anyone to cancell an order, why?

I cancelled an order last year before Christmas about 2 days after ordering, all I did was call up and ask to cancel the order. It was being processed, and was due to ship out that day.

As for their warehouse, they do have warehouses all over the US, I have had items sent from IN, OH, CA and NJ when dealing with them.

I would have hung up and called back another CSR.

Re: overstock.com has never allowed anyone to cancell an order, why?

I have had very good and less positive experiences with overstock.com. Last month, I ordered back to school gifts from several places. A large order from overstock arrived 1 to 2 weeks before the other online retailers. Including Gap, Old Navy, several Amazon afiliates, etc. I am told they are happy with the items received. And I certainly got good prices.

About a week later, I had a less postive experience. I made a mistake when ordering a Christian CD. I clicked the wrong delivery address on my list and it was sent to a Jewish family. I noticed my error immediately and called the 800 within a seconds, but I wasn't able to cancel the order. It wasn't a disaster - just a bit embarrassing. Overstock was polite, but I was on hold for several minutes.

I continue to use overstock, but I will be careful with "ship to" gifts.

They probably lose money if they cancel an order. Imagine, a business that doesn't want to lose money! What a concept.

Overstock Highest Prices Guranteed

I just made the mistake of buying form overstock myself. I bought a JVC GPS system for $338. The next day a co-worker laughed at me and said the same system was $179 at CompUSa. Sure enough he was right. I put in a request for refund under their "best price gurantee" and was told no can do since the CompUSA price was a "sales promotion". Never mind that CompUSA's regular price for this same unit is $199--$140 lower the Oversotck's price. They did give me a $104 in store credit basded on Amazon's regular price of $229 but of course this credit isn't worth $104 since I know ralize how overpriced overstock.com is. Never again.
