From the article...

"Gustav le Bon, a social scientist known for his crowd psychology theories, has stressed the importance of repetition as a weapon in the fanatic's arsenal. Repetition breeds blind acceptance and contagion. "

I can agree with that statement, but it applies more to our very own babble-on sister and the Democrats rather than the Bush administration, doesn't it??

It's just another trash anti-Bush article, that's all, trying to throw a jab here and there. I can understand stooping to such levels when your own party has no message of its own, losing miserably in the 2000 election and is still wailing over the Florida vote count and their impotent champion Al Gore's defeat. C'est la vie!

Jeskibuff: No, repetition is a tool of REPUBLICANS: now, it's just sad that you would suggest that Democrats repeat, repeat, repeat, ad nauseum. Watch the Sunday talk shows: the blatherers always have a common theme, very often down to the same word or phrase. It's borr..rrrrr..ing! Why repeat? Reinforces a vague thought as the gospel truth...repeat it three times, a la Dorothy's "There's no place like home....", click your shoes, and the sheeple believe! Magic! And isn't it SO much EASIER than actually THINKING FOR YOURSELF, QUESTIONING ...Right, Jeskibuff??

Babble on, sister. No one is more guilty of repeating the same old stuff as you are. It's well documented. To accuse someone else of using the only tactic you rely on is blatantly hypocritical.

For OTHER readers of this thread, you might be interested in learning that Ms. Huffington, at one time, was a Republican. Now she is "an independent with no allegiance to either political party." Her recent book "Pigs at the Trough" is an "indictment of corporate criminals and the corporate government that rewards their psychopathic behavior." On the issue of fanatical repetition, the Democrats take the prize. If I have to hear one more person say "These tax cuts are only for the rich", I will puke on my shoes.

It is unfortunate that the advance of one's age results in one of two opposite effects. Some people get wiser as they get older. Other people don't. I imagine that Ronald Reagan's Alzheimers has advanced so far that he's about to become a Democrat, too. It's really such a sad thing.

Jesk,
You took a fact (Ms. Huffington was once a Republican and is now an independent), and you bastardized it with deliberate, spurious, usurpations (Ronald Reagan may now be a Democrat because he is suffering a brain deteriorating disease). Can you at least try to make a statement that is sane, intelligent and independently well thought out, or are you going to continue to spread such pablum to defend your political views?

Jeskibuff: Actually, Ronald Reagan WAS a Democrat at one time, and an admirer of FDR. He was the president of the Screen Actors Guild. Nancy (wife #2) shared his conservative views. He registered as a Republican in 1962.

Good grief, what political view (in your opinion) was I trying to defend? And by the way, when will you refrain from fraudulent behaviour to defend your views? (refer to Virtue vs. Vice thread).

My statement was a joke to make light of Jwelch's implication that this Huffington bimbo suddenly became "wise" when she decided to abandon the Republican party. I can only wonder what goes on inside a mind to think that the trash that the liberals spew is more intelligent than conservative views. You and Jwelch have exhibited tremendous inability to defend your views using logic and simple facts. It astounds me that someone could devolve into that mindset. The Reagan quip was a natural outflow of that thought process. It's funny and sad at the same time. It's funny to think Reagan (revered by conservatives) would degrade to Democrat viewpoints, but sad that he is actually experiencing the effects of Alzheimers.

Now, back to the "repeat until they believe it" philosophy:

Jwelch's definition of murder...a collection of excerpts from the "An Open Letter to America" thread
http://www.dealofday.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=119840.
If you repeat it often enough, maybe SOMEONE might believe it's murder!

Jwelch: 4/3, 10:50am
Is this invasion, this murder of innocents justified?

Jwelch: 4/3, 10:57am
I believe the Iraqi people do not deserve this vicious attack on their country, this brutal murder of their citizenry.

twonky: 4/3 3:44pm
you think we're murdering innocent people as a policy?

twonky: 4/4 10:23am
How would you feel if that country just ignored the murder and oppression caused by the dictator?

Jwelch: 4/5 12:23pm
Can you see that the Iraqis do not think they will be liberated (as they are being murdered)

twonky: 4/5 3:13pm
Murdered? So now we're not just accidentally killing civilians, we're actually planning on it? You are severly misguided.

Jwelch: 4/6 5:28pm
Oh, come on now... why don't you call them collateral damage and be done with them. It's more antiseptic than murder, especially murder unprovoked, in a pre-emptive invasion, isn't it?

twonky: 4/6 8:46am
Are you actually saying that we're murdering innocent Iraqis? Do you even know the difference between colateral damage and murder?

Jwelch: 4/6 10:51am
Wars are IMMORAL...and the Iraqis did nothing to bring this time of their MASS MURDERS upon themselves.. Their corpses will not be liberated.

twonky: 4/6 6:08pm
And again you use the word murder. Do you truly not know the difference between murder and accidental killing? Please tell me you do.

Jwelch: 4/9 8:07am
And this INVASION has been a brutal murder of innocent Iraqis

Shainie: 4/9 8:31am
You keep using the word Murder, which shows your ignorance and makes me lose respect for your opinions, because you are led by your "Anti-Bush" feelings, rather than the facts. You KNOW that our troops aren't there to MURDER Iraqi people.

And I suppose it doesn't matter to you that Sadaam MURDERED thousands of his own people.

Jwelch: 4/9 9:32am
I WILL call it MURDER: the deaths of innocent civilians in an unprovoked "war". You may call them "collateral damage."

twonky: 4/9 10:38am
can you at least be real for a little bit and admit that we're not over there trying to kill innocent people? And can you please just admit you're throwing around the 'murder' term a little too loosely? You really are showing your anti-Bush mentality when you carry on like this.

twonky: 4/9 10:48am
We are not murdering innocent people. We don't have a plan to kill innocent people.

If you accidentally hit someone with your car and they die, did you murder them?
...calling it murder is just ignorant.

Well said, twonky & Shainie!

Shocked

Yikes, that post just made my head spin.

It's tedious enough to read through without having to read it three times....

Jeskibuff, you seem to be blindly defending Bush, no matter what is coming to light about him. I guess time will tell.
Did I miss something? What exactly is "coming to light" about President Bush??? Was there some sort of "Nixon tape" item that has shown that GWB did this or that?? Was there a paper trail that led back to the desk in the Oval Office indicating he gave secret orders on something or other?? A stained dress and a spurned intern, perhaps?? Oh wait... I remember... according to certain people here, all that "evidence" has been spirited away by GWB and his cronies, right???

I'm beginning to think monkee was right about the whole "devil incarnate" thing. I mean, honestly, you'd have to be a pretty bad guy if you're sitting high on your mountain scheming against your enemies 24/7 which, according to some here, is what he's doing, right?? Even the media has taken a nasty tone by referring to anything remotely negative in government as "coming from the White House" (no matter where it originates, including things coming from the liberals!). Ahhhh, yes.... GWB is America's Stromboli!!! Watch the great puppet master at work!! See him throw his head back and release a gutteral howl of delight!!! (At least, I'm sure that's the way Hollywood would like to portray him!)

Time will indeed tell. And it's going to have quite a story!

BTW, anyone got an extra copy of Ann Coulter's "Treason" lying around?

(Nice Steely Dan reference, jes!)

Bsmom: "coming to light": At the GREAT risk of annoying Jeskibuff with repetition, THAT is one of the MAJOR problems with the Bush administration. NOTHING comes to light; there is a deliberate attempt to suppress information. WHAT are they hiding? Everything they do they attempt to cover up under the very broad umbrella of NATIONAL SECURITY. Cheney's energy papers, the 9-11 800 page report: why is this information suppressed ? Kissinger quit the 9-11 commission because he would have been required to reveal his business connections. REMEMBER, Bush and his administration are employed by us; he "serves" at OUR will, not vice versa. We must demand transparency, not secrecy: WE THE PEOPLE are the true government. If a stained blue dress commands such urgent attention (to this day, by some) I can demand to know the reasoning behind the pre-emptive invasion of a sovereign country, killing over 5,000 Iraqis. The American people, of all political persuasions, MUST be told the truth (ideally, UNDER OATH, by BUSH himself). And 'nothing but the truth', or, in the words of another author, the late Barbara Olsen, there will be "**** to Pay".

TRUTH? You have demonstrated that you care ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the truth. Unless it fits into your warped agenda, it is a lie, isn't it? You ignore the facts, invent fictitious reasons for things and can only come up with one conclusion: Bush is the devil incarnate. You cannot fathom the thought of listening to anyone's point of view if it conflicts with what you want to believe. It truly is pathetic.

One of the few good things that will come out of these many discussions is that some people who have remained on the skirts of the political arena will easily see who uses logic and reason and who relies on fiction, fanatacism and repetition to bolster their positions. Hopefully, your rantings have sent a few more votes over to the conservative side of the ledger.
